Jack Osbourne in rehab

Report: Ozzy Osbourne's Son in Rehab

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- Jack Osbourne, the 17-year-old son of heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne, has checked into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic, People magazine reported.

The teenager entered Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena on April 23, according to the issue appearing on newsstands Friday.

"I got caught up in my new lifestyle and got carried away with drugs and alcohol," Osbourne told the magazine. "Once I realized this, I voluntarily checked myself into a detox facility for my own health and well-being."

A publicist for the Osbourne family did not immediately return calls seeking comment Tuesday.

The magazine said Osbourne acknowledged to his mother, Sharon, in January that he was overindulging in marijuana and alcohol.

Jack Osbourne is the youngest of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne's three children. He and his 18-year-old sister, Kelly, became international stars with the success of MTV's reality show "The Osbournes." Their older sister, Aimee, didn't take part.

"It takes a lot of courage and strength to admit you need help, and both Sharon and I are proud Jack is facing his problems head-on," Ozzy Osbourne said.

Ozzy Osbourne has been candid, both on and off the show, about his decades of battles with substance abuse. The second season began in November on a somber note, with the 54-year-old rock star boozing heavily to cope with Sharon's diagnosis of colon cancer.

Ozzy since has said that his wife is cancer-free after months of treatment.

In an interview last year, 50-year-old Sharon Osbourne told People magazine, "Kelly was four months old and being wheeled around the Betty Ford Center."

"The kids have always known what it does, and they know they're not going to get away if they mess with it," she said.

Last summer, Jack Osbourne injured his arm when he jumped off the Malibu Pier while surfing with members of the rock band Incubus. He also made a cameo on the WB series "Dawson's Creek."

The high price of fame... or a dysfunctional family? No, bad choices. The song, Celebrity, by Brad Paisley, fits here.

he really grosses me out. he just looks so nasty

he is so proud of his drug and alcohol use, even though he is only 17. the whole world knows about it, and it takes this long to do something about it. something's not right here

He should enjoy his 15 minutes while they last....

He has gained a good amount of weight. It could be due to the munchies one usually get after smoking that stuff he's in rehab for.

It was bound to happen sooner or later.
Maybe he can get a haircut while he's there.

Why isn't this kid being charged with M.I.P. or drugs???

I hate how celebrities are immune to the rules.

I was watching punk'd last night and it was about him going through a metal detector and it would beep each time, so they had to search him. One of the security guys asked him, "Do you have something hiding in your hair?" I thought it was too funny!! His hair was rather wicked.

You know, you only get arrested or charged if you're caught by authorities--are you arrested every time you drink underage or smoke a joint? I think not. So, it's not that he's "immune to the rules," there's a very high possibility that he (and his parents) wanted to get him help before that became an issue. There's also the possibility that with a family history of addiction, the Osbournes wanted to get help for their son before he hit rock bottom, as they all know the toll of drug abuse. So, just because he didn't get arrested doesn't mean that he's just a rich kid skirting the law. This could be a preventive measure more than anything.

I think this is pretty sad. As strange as we may think they are, until the show started, the Osbourne kids were skillfully kept out of the public eye. Now they go from 0 to 120 in less than a year, and they're celebrities in their own right, facing all the peer pressure and media scrutiny their parents protected them from. Drug addiction is a tough thing for a family to deal with--regardless of their economic status or fame.

I had MTV on this weekend and they actually aired several episodes of the Osbournes (which I had not seen). In one of the episodes they had a family meeting where both Ozzy and Sharon tried to confront Jack on his substance abuse. At the time Jack said "I'm not addicted" and became very defensive...actually storming out of the meeting. The family even at that time was expressing concern for his habits. Not that I am taking up for Jack (b/c I think he's gross and I can't stand him) but I think it's interesting to see that it was addressed several months ago and then to see what's happening now.

the fact of the matter is that this is sad.....and it sucks he's going through this, and that his parents are going through it, too.....like they don't have enough health issues as it is.

glad he's getting the help he needs...hopefully he sticks it out.

Because he wasn't caought with stuff on him. I can check myself in for heroin and as long as I can pay to stay there, they will treat me for heroin. They don't ask for proof that you have it because that will mean you still have it and could go back to it. He was probably clean, meaing nothing on him, when he checked himself in.

I just want to mention that he owns/runs his own record label. Ain't that some shizznit.

It's good that he is getting help at such a young age.

A lot of people believe that the Osbournes are a dysfunctional family. I don't buy it. Despite their non-traditional practices [and an attitude here and there and everywhere], I admire the way they keep their family intact despite their wealth...the booze...and the drugs.

Sure, it's not something to be proud of. If I were Kelly, I'd be embarassed to know that I was pushed around the Betty Ford clinic in a stroller. I have a lot of friends who have parents who are drug & alcohol abusers, and most of them won't even touch that stuff because they know how it can tear families apart. :(

We see celebrities in and out of rehab all the time [Helloooooo Robert Downey, Jr!]. Judging from how the family came together to provide support and love to Sharon, I'm pretty sure that they'll do the same for Jack. That'll probably be the only way he'll stay away from that stuff.
