Informationals
Hello everyone! This is my first time posting and I really needed to ask a question. This is the season for pledging at my university and there will be an AKA informational coming up. I know for a fact that I have too big of a course load to actually participate in the pledging process if I was blessed enough to be chosen, but I really want to know the facts about this chapter so I can prepare for the time when I actually am ready. My question is , Is it still a good idea to go to the informational even if I'm not ready to pledge?

I waited until I was ready to pledge before attending a formal rush, however, it was no secret to the AKAs on my campus that I wanted to pledge anyway. The problem is that on my campus, young ladies would attend our rush just to see who attended. Then, they would try to figure out who made the line that semester. Some of them would tell their boyfriends (who were members of fraternities) and their friends. Some young ladies would be harrassed or followed for no reason. We were followed! It was crazy.
Of course, we also observe who attends our rush just like we know who attends our activities/events. I didn't mind people attending rush if they were truly interested in AKA, but from my experience on the undergrad level it did draw a little more attention to those people. I watched them a little more closely to see how they carried themselves in public. If I had a class with them, I listened to how they spoke in class if they did at all. But even if you attended a rush, you may not find the information about the chapter you are seeking. The information is centered around Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. as a whole, not the individual chapter. If you make line, then you will be taught about your chapter and its history. I wish you much luck! [This message has been edited by AKAtude (edited February 08, 2000).] |
