letetrs worn by non-members
My chapter is having a problem and although I am not a ATO I am generally asking random groups their opinion about this problem.
I go to a relatively small school with only about 3000 students in all and only 3 non-ethnic sororities on campus. We have been having a lot of problems with non-members wearing our letters. Mostly freshmen who want to pledge. Most of the time it is something simple like a key chain but these people have no idea what this means to us. My question is....What can we do about this aside from telling the person outright? Can we go to Greek-Council or to our Student Affairs chairman? Or should we go to our faculty sponsor? PLEASE HELP US!!! Thanks a lot |
that sucks non-initiates wearing your letters, it usually occurs with old members that were removed from membership but I have heard of some "posers". well lets see your best bet would be to write a editorial to your campus paper stating why non-initiates should not wear letters. that will help get the word out. also any nonmember should be asked to remove your letters and if they do not cooperate "persuade them". also most National HQ have your letters as registered trademarks so it does become illegal for noninitiates to wear them. finally, remember that only true members understand the purpose and meanings of your letters, and symbols so they can act all they want but only true sisters are respected and "better then the rest". ps I know a bunch of sigmas here at my campus. they are the sweetest girls ever I think they are the Eta Omicron chapter....
