Great community service idea

Heidelberg service fraternity hosts 'senior prom'

Hats off to Heidelberg's Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity for organizing a "senior prom" as a project for the area's elderly population. P.T. (Preston) Barnum, a freshman from Sandusky, chaired the event with junior Stacey Denoon from Galion.

Members of the fraternity were divided up into groups &emdash; greeters, socializers and gaming people.

With corsages, special photos taken and even a casino room, some 30 area nursing home and assisted living residents were given a chance to go to another prom.

That's a great idea. I believe our senior citizen's community center does that already though. Cool idea though!

Last year, a fraternity on my campus held a prom for the senior citizens at a local home. I remember thinking that was such a great idea, and a creative way to get involved with senior citizens. Among doing other things, the fraternity also won an award for outstanding community service that year.
