How do we compare?
The Fratenrity Executives Assn. (composed of the paid staff of male GLOs) does an annual secret survey of GLOs in Oct. 2002, and the SAE magazine has published partial results for the "Big Six".
TKE - 247 chapters, 22 colonies, 3032 initiates in 01-02, 9463 undergrad members, 35 average chapter size, $497 4-yr. memb. cost SPE - 239, 18, 5531, 13,907, 54, $425 Sigma Chi - 215, 6, 3418, 11,450, 50, $420 SAE - 208, 6, 3,000, 9200, 43, $545 PiKA - 208, 5, 4378, 10779, 51, $389 KS - 201, 7, 2945, 8157, 39, $330 LXA - 192, 15,3043, 8000, 39, $675 |
All I know is that we have around 200 active chapters.
We should be right up there with all those groups though. |
I do find it interesting that Sig Ep is so close to TKEs (in number of chapters).
Is TKEs reign as the largest collegiate fraternal organization in the US close to an end? Not that it matters anyway... As for this breakdown of fees...Hoosier does it include insurance as well? XP2k |
Well Sig Ep has already overtaken them in initiates and undergrad members. So have Sig Chi and PiKA
|
Well according to IHQ our number of active chapters are 280. Don't know where that low a number came from.

Before a "pissin match" starts or a can or worms is opened, I just want to make it clear that I pointed this out becuase I found it interesting (the TKE-Sig Ep thing), and not as a slam to any organization.

Don't think it was a pissing match, just wondered where that low number came from. I was just talking to TKE rush coach the other day an active chapters were no where near that number. The chapter average is close those numbers. Our chapter average has always been lower than the other big 6 that I know of.

247 or 274
Could be the magazine has a typing error, jumbling 247 TKE chapters and 274.
I'll try to get Indpls. to clarify. |

I'm also glad to see that this isn't turning into a pissing match. The numbers seem to be a bit soft, since if you figured out Sig Ep's average men per chapter it should be 58 instead of 54 given these numbers. Nevertheless, it's good information to compare and to see where everyone else is at. Who does the "Big Six" exclude on this list since there are seven? |
