Read This (All GCers Welcome)

I am Jess and I am an alumna member of the closed Beta Kappa chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha. I came to Greek Chat for the first time to seek help for our dying chapter as people who have been around awhile remember from last Dec/Jan. I divulged that we were having problems with numbers and such, information that any person on this campus with 2 eyes and ears have easily found out. Many of the GC people here helped with ideas, moral support, etc. Over time and through being with GC for awhile, I started to get to know some of the GCers from ASA and other orginizations alike. Spesfically 33girl, James, AOIIAlum, and many others have become great people to talk to for support, suggestions, or a laugh.

Through the months I have been on GC I have posted on many forums over many topics. Never once did I reveal any ASA secrets as some people have accused (check with 33girl, she'll verify). I also stand accused of posting threads that do not represent ASA in a postive way. Just about every member of GC represents a Greek Letter Org. whether it be one of the 26 NPCs, NIC, IFC, NPHC, Multicultural, Professional, Local. Topics are brought up such as kissing, sex, drinking, etc. and many people from many orginizations participate in these topics. I see my posts as no more unpositive then any of these, and even if people in that thread disagree with whatever's being discussed I don't think people look to their GLO and pass judgement, they know it is their opinion as an individual.

And about posting about my personal life...I have been alive for 20 years, I have been an ASA for 1 year, and while I will continue to be an ASA for the rest of my life, for right now, ASA has been just a moment in my life compared to 20 years. I have done things in my teenage years that I am not proud of that do not represnt ASA, but I feel that if I wish to discuss these things in a post, I have a right to. Also, for those of you who would take the time to get to know me before you reply with sharp tounge, you would know about my past and what happened to me before ASA.

For my sisters who would pass judgement on me: You have a right to think and express what you want and I have the responsibilty of listening, but I do no have the responsibility of agreeing. If you think what I discuss on here is not appropriate, you have the right to your opinion, but let me just say that for every one of your opinions, there are many out there on these boards that oppose your opinons. The only way a site like this works is if people are free to express their opinoins. Otherwise we might just as well all have our national presidents be the only ones allowed to post and have each post voted on by council before it is posted.

I am a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha, and I'm very proud of it. I am also a member of GreekChat.com, the best Greek site on the web.

I have no idea what happened, but I've got your back!

I have no idea what happened, but I have never seen you do anything to misrepresent ASA. If my chapter had closed, I would have probably come on here all http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies...it_all_out.gif but you have been nothing but classy! :D

I've thought long and hard about whether or not I should speak up on this matter. I've belonged to this board for awhile but recently changed my name. I'm also a member of the recently closed Beta Kappa chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha and would just like to clear up a couple of issues.

First of all, we have to remember that you can only tell so much about a person by their online persona. They can be exactly the same in real life or different. I will not state my personal opinion of AlphaFrog because that does not matter. She is my sister and therefore it does not matter what I think.

I agree that the personal attacks on this board were unwarranted and the issues at hand should've been taken up in private. Please do not blame these attacks on the closing of our chapter. These ill feelings were nursed long before the closing of the chapter was even an issue for us.

Please do not judge my sisters by their comments on this board. They are actually exemplarary ASA's despite this one small slip, but then again no one is perfect. I, also, do not believe that the actions of these sisters should be attributed to my chapter as a whole. As I have stated before, I do believe that we do our best to be women of poise and purpose in our everyday lives.

Sarah

Edited to add my name cuz I forgot it

UH what? seriously it seems like no matter the chapter ASA's always have drama. No seriously I have not read any threads from my ASA sisters that are bad.

alphafrog,
i agree with your post 100%. i have no idea what brought this up, nor do i care. i think it is important for everyone to remember that we are not just members of fraternity and sororities. we are people, who make mistakes. being greek does not give you the power of perfection.

and don't we whine and complain when people say, well, so and so, did xyz and now everyone thinks that all of us "alphas" do that??? well, maybe it is because we perpetuate the idea that EVERYTHING every member says and does reflects on their group. just a thought.
