Beta Chapter's interesting story
Christin-
Did you figure out the interesting story about Beta Chapter? :) Roses! Sarah |
According to the history book, their original sorority (Delta Sigma) merged into AOII in 1908. Helen installed the chapter at Brown into AOII while Grand President, but Beta was never actually active because Brown banned sororities.
Did I get it right, or is there more to the story? I've been so busy selling candles (I'm going to BONUS this month, yeah me!!) I haven't hunted deeper into the book for more details. Share everything you know, because I want to learn it all! Roses, Christin |
I didn't think that it was never an active chapter because most of the chapter was not too happy merging Delta Sigma with AOII. I'm sure that it was a little of both (sororities no longer allowed as well as half the group not wanting to join AOII) - you know how Stella can get when writing the history! :)
Beta is the only chapter that never truly existed as an active collegiate chapter, isn't it? Sarah |
I think so, if I read the history book correctly! Then again, you're the archivist around here, I'd ask you if I had a question <VBG>
Hugs and roses, Christin |

I understood that they were never truly "active" either. However, they were the nucleus of the newly founded alumnae chapter.

It's the same one, unless you've got some super secret archival history book.
Ya'll know what I'd love to do? I'd love to read the history books of all of the sororities. I'd also love to read an older copy of Baird's. I've read a couple of books on the Divine Nine and they were just incredible reads. I sometimes see one on ebay, but 9 times out of 10 I get outbid. Which reminds me, the one that I do have I still need to donate to IHQ as promised a month ago... Roses, Absent-minded Christin |

What book are you donating? A Baird's or another groups? I have a list of which Baird's IHQ has on hand to make sure they don't get duplicates :) Sarah |
Alpha Chi Omega's, an older version but still in good condition. It wasn't on display in the library when I was in there (but oh, what wonderful books are in there!)
