House Rules?
A thread in the chit chat forum has sparked my curiosity. In the "Fire" thread I believe AlphaFrog said that they were not to have boys in the house past 3am.
I was just wondering what some of your house rules are on having "guests"? Our chapter doesn't have a house, so I don't know what kind of rules are in place. Who decides these rules? How are they enforced? I'm just curious. |
National Kappa Delta allowed us to have men in our common areas, but not in our rooms. To be honest, I don't remember the time restrictions on this.
|
We aren't allowed to have men in the house past midnight, or above the first floor (our public floor) except during move-in and an hour before/after home football games. When you're on the first floor, any room you're in has to have the door open.

Are you guys serious? wow!
We have no curfew or rules on men at all. I mean obviously don't be screaming so loud you wake the house (10 people) but we just don't have those kind of rules. other things: clean up your messes (aka papers, binders, bottles) don't eat someone else's food.... maybe we have a very lax house...hum...we party hard in our house... :) OHHH! Rule!!!! Don't drink with nat'l staff/council and give them a bed to sleep in! ;) e |

{psychtau plugs ears and sings loudly} I didn't hear that part about you "partying hard". I really didn't. ;) But yes, you can't drink with staff and you have to give us a bed to sleep in. |
our rules
no boys upstairs where the bedrooms are-national policy
no boys in the house past 3am on weekends and 1 am on weeknights no alcohol in the house boys can only use the bathroom by the tv room don't drink with anyone from nationals then there's the basics: clean up after yourself, be considerate of others, don't eat anyone else's food, share the tvs with cable, ask before you borrow, don't go into someone's room if they are not present.... |
I feel bad for you guys!!
We have a small house, and no rules. Which is nice... until someone comes home drunk at 3am waking everyone up. |
Men aren't allowed upstairs in any of the sorority houses on my campus.
|
men were only allowed in the common areas of the house except during move in/move out..except under special circumstances (ie: handyman fixing something, etc..) and then you'd have to yell "man on floor"
no alcohol in the house i think guys had to be out of the house 1am on weeknights, and 2 or 3 on weekends..but no one ever really followed that |
Rules when I lived in the house (97-99)
-No boys above the first floor -No alcohol (even if you were 21) -No propping open of doors -Practical jokes were to stay in good taste (this initiated b/c we had some horrible pranksters my sophomore year) Fun rules: -Last person to yell "Not it" or put their finger on their nose had to answer the phone/doorbell. I still find myself yelling "Not it!" when the phone at work rings :D |
My sorority was (and still is) unhoused, but the rules in the housed sororities were (IIRC):
- No alcohol, even if you are 21 - No overnight male guests; not sure what time they had to leave by - Men had to be escorted using the horizontal/vertical rule: The sister that the man was a guest of, had to be somewhere on the same floor of the house as the man, but not necessarily in the same room. (So a sister could, say, go down the hall to the bathroom without her guest having to tag along.) - I think that if a man was in a room, the door had to be open... not sure about that. During my junior and senior years, one sorority had a wing in a graduate dorm as a preliminary to getting a house. Since they were officially in a dorm rather than a house, they didn't have to abide by any no-alcohol or no-men rules... and they didn't ;) |

For the Sororities it varies as to what their "Man hours" are. Most houses do not allow males above the first floor at any time. If you are in "man hours" the girls have to use the intercom system to announce what floor the guys are on.
technically the fraternities are on 14 hour visitation policy from the University, which means girls are supposed to be out of the house by 2am and aren't allowed back until noon, but this has to be one of the most overlooked rules on campus. Theoretically if a campus security officer was doing a walk through and heard a girl after 2am they could force them to leave... I know that the Beta chapter at Kansas has a rule that no girls are allowed on the second, third or fourth floor...seniors get rooms on the first floor so that they may get around the rule...totally opposite of my chapter where girls are encouraged to shack... |
My chapter's house isn't official, but it is zoned to be a sorority house; so therefore, the girls have to follow any local area rules.
