Rush Events ideas where alcohol is not served.... help

Hey whats up. my name is brian miller, Kappa Kappa chapter @ UNC-Charlotte. Last fall one of our rush events was Pike fight night where we box each other. its an awesome event but our rush chair got strippers to mud wrestle at the intermission. anyways we got in trouble with IFC. We can't have any rush events this next fall anywhere that serves alcohol. we have a dry rush anyways but, this still dampers our events a little. We can't even go to chucky cheese if we wanted to, cause they serve beer. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for some good events that we can do, somewhere that doesn't serve alcohol. Besides the obvious, cookouts and what not. we have some good ideas but others are always welcome. Thanks.

Hey--I have a bunch of friends that go to Charlotte! I'm from Iredell County-Statesville area but I go to college in Virginia. I also date a Pike. :D

Sucks about your rush. Strippers don't usually go over too well with IFC. In terms of non-alcoholic:

Cookouts are awesome--esp. with bands and whatnot\
My campus they do Monday night football parties and casual get-togethers for all the major sporting events

My friend that goes to UNCC is a DZ. I have no idea what they're like. I know a Chi O too, and a couple Phi Kaps.

Brian, I am from Kappa Epsilon Chapter, so I can certainly understand where you are coming from in terms of creating new rush traditions.

As a pash rush chair who moved from a wet to a dry rush, I can tell you that the transition is somewhat rough. Finding good events that promotes the right types of brotherhood is difficult and can be hard to move your brothers out of the wet rush frame of reference.

Having said that, I would recommend doing a blue chip information session and dinner. The information session can be done on or off campus and would involve different speakers from the chapter on bragging points of the chapter, etc. This is good in conveying the points of your chapter in a professional manner without using alcohol.

When we transitioned from wet to dry rush, our Greek Advisor made us stipulate in our agreements with restaurants and such that we would not drink on their premises and if we did, the restaurant was to notify the school.

What we do now is rent out a portion of the dog tracks in KC and have a prime rib dinner served. Its an awesome event, and is by far the best on our campus (others either go bowling or to a comedy club).

Other ideas are to go paintballing, play lazer tag, rent out an arcade or family pool hall, putt putt, stuff like that.

I would definitely recommend talking to your Greek Advisor and get input from her/him as to negotiating these ideas into your agreements with places. Hope this helps.

Paintball is a good we did it with pledges vs. members during the semester and it wasalot of fun. I'd say try to do anything with sporting events like just either goin to a game (either football or whatever is happening) or meetin up somewhere and watchin it...

We have that same problem as you, the whole dry rush and dry campus makes it hard, but it helps get to know the real them better.
