I like Real World, Road Rules(before it started ripping off Survivor), Survivor, and Big Brother. I also like the Game Shows like Millionaire and Weakest Link. Personally, shows like Fear Factor gross me out and the new ones like Amazing Race are so copy cat. I'll admit that shows like Making the Band, Boot Camp, and Temptation Island can be good too, I guess I just think Reality TV is getting out of control.

"Reality TV," is a contradiction of terms.
I've worked in the medium since the sixties. There's nothing real about it. DeltAlum |
Once again DeltAlum, you are right!
To be honest, I wouldn't be too sad if we did away with "Reality TV". I enjoyed the first Real World season because to me, that was the only "Real" season. Seasons after #1 were nothing but scripted scenarios and cast members only wanted in on the show because they wanted to get their foot in the door. Read the updates and you'll find that over half of all the cast members work in the entertainment industry. I only watched Survivor last season because of Amber. I didn't watch #1 and I doubt I'll watch #3. I will admit that I love watching Murder in Small Town X. It's a show that hasn't really been done before, and I think that's why I like it so much. ------------------ A single seed...becomes a Rose of incredible beauty. A single grain of sand...becomes a Pearl of great worth. A single great idea...becomes a Century of success. Go Alpha Gam! |
I've never heard of Murder in Small Town X. What's it about? From the title, I have a few clues. Is this a new show?

I'm not sure if Murder in Small Town X should be classified under Reality TV, but that's what the FOX channel is calling it.
Anyway...it's somewhat like the game CLUE--only more high tech..more drama..more graphic. The show is based in fictional Sunrise, Maine and a family has just been murdered. The people who applied to be on the show serve as investigators and are given a list of suspects. The townspeople are actors, and the investigators comb through the town, interviewing people, which will hopefully lead to the capture of the killer. Each week one person is "eliminated". One person is chosen by the group, the other is selected by the lifeguard. If you're one of the two selected, you basically have a 50/50 chance. One person comes back with a clue, the other is "killed off". It sounds complicated, I know. But it does air tonight on FOX. |
Reality TV has gone wayy to far. I started feeling this way after the 4th Reality based show came on. There is no amount of money in this world that would make me eat a worm, rats, have them dumped on me, etc.. Kind of shows you what greed and money can do. Yeah, the money would be nice, but Ive got my standards and sometimes somethings arent worth it. The only shows that I do like are Real World, and Road Rules. I have gotten into the 2nd Big Brother, but I dont like Survivor, Temptation Island(I will admitt i watched just to see what would happen), Fear Factor, Spy TV and these new ones sound dumber.

Reality TV
Ok, I just finished reading some stuff about reality tv shows. And I really think the whole concept is starting to get a little crazy. My question to you is: What do you think about them? Are there too many? Are they going to far? Which ones should stay and which should go? In my opinion, they can all go except for Real World and Survivor. Just thought I'd get your opinion.

I don't know...sometimes I have to wonder about people. You're right, these reality shows have gone off the deep end. I was watching this one show--I can't remember the name right now--but they set up a practical joke in a bridal shop. Brides were coming in the day before their wedding, and these awful people were telling them that their dresses had been destroyed due to fire or something like that. These girls were just devastated, and as a recent bride, I was just horrified! What kind of sick people do cruel things like that? I'm sorry, but that show is lucky they didn't do it to me. I would have sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress. That's not entertainment--its just plain mean.
