Save Rancho Website
Alrighty, I know that 99.9% of everyone that reads this doesn't know what Rancho Los Amigos is... But I'm gonna fill you in.
It's a National Rehabilitation Hospital that specializes in things like spinal cord injury (what my mom and Christopher Reeves have), neurologic disorders, Alzheimer's, post-polio, liver disease, and a whole bunch more. It's run by L.A. County, and is in jeopardy of being closed. (because the county is in debt) Rancho is the largest and #1 Rehabilitation Center on the West coast... Ok, so basically, there has been a lot of protests about closing it... And of course since my mom was there for 5 1/2 months, we want it to stay open. So the Union that is organizing the protests asked me to make a website, to inform people about it... And so I did! :D I'd really like it if you could look it up, and let me know what you think. I just thought I'd update everyone on what is happening with the battle to save Rancho Los Amigos that Beth is involved. The judge has issued a preliminary injunction telling Los Angeles County they can not close Rancho. Yeah!!!
Rancho Los Amigos is a not only the number one Rehabilitation center but there is a lot of history tied in to it as well. It was a premier research institute when polio was epidemic across the nation. You may have seen in history books pictures of kids laying in these huge round metal tubes called Iron Lungs - more then likely that picture was taken at Rancho. If you're interested in history of anytype I suggest doing a websearch about Rancho Los Amigos and you will be surprised at how much medical breakthroughs it was involved in. |
