Mississippi State

I just read that AOPi is colonizing... how are they colonizing when a chapter there just closed!

It is up to the College Panhellenic Council to decide when and if they want to expand. Evidently the CPC felt they needed an additional sorority on campus.

Its painful to hear of another sorority moving into the Alpha Gam house, but I wish AOPi the best of luck and much success in their colonization.

MS State needs another chapter. Currently they have six sororities. http://www.msstate.edu/org/panhellenic/

Delta Gamma and Kappa Delta are the only two updated sites. Chi Omega is updated as of last year. However, Tri Delta, Phi Mu and Zeta are over a year almost two years old.

Most chapters at MS State are close to or over 200 members. Pledge classes are in the upper 60s. They are in dire need of another sorority. State did not ask AGD to leave. I understand that AGD HQs pulled the chapter off campus. I am not positive, but I think that was the only AGD chapter in MS. I am sure it was hard for the chapter to find alumnae help. My cousin (you can see her picture on the Kappa Delta website) told me at Christmas they voted on a new chapter, but she was not sure what the final outcome was of the vote. Last Tuesday she called and said AOPi was colonizing at State and that they have asked the other chapters to help with recruitment.

According to the Mississippi State thread that discussed this situation last year, it was my understanding that the Theta Theta chapter closed due to low numbers.

Kathryn Kish, Executive Director, said there was an overwhelming response to Theta Theta's closure. Many Alpha Gams across the country and Canada sent letters and emails asking for an appeal. At that time, the chapter's closure came as a shock to not only our Theta Theta sisters, but to the Greek community at Mississippi State.

Sadly, International Council decided to resolve the Theta Theta chapter :( .

If anyone is interested, an article was published inThe Reflector regarding the closure. At the time the article was printed, the Director of Greek Life did state that Mississippi State needed one more sorority.

IC, as do many sorority councils, does not resolve chapters just for the hell of it. Much thought, consideration, and debate always goes on because no one ever wants to close a chapter. It's my hope that one day Theta Theta can find its way back home to Mississippi State! Good luck to AOPi and their colonization!
