American Idol

I am just not feeling AI this time around. Actually I guess I am still miffed from last season when the most marketable of the the finalists got voted off. Justin and Kelly were never my choice for American Pop( -u-lar) idols (although teenboppers would probably feel Justin).

Ruben is a wonderful singer. He ain't my idea of an American Idol. However, I don't vote so maybe millions of Americans have yet to tire of watching that double wide body with that played out "205" jersey singing but not entertaining. The brother needs to bring his "A" game and END the competition for all challengers next week. I hope he does decide to make a statement and stop playing it safe with that passionless singing he is doing. *I know I will take some hits for this*

Trenyce is a sista whose singing I like. I hope she gets the votes to keep her around for a few.

Kimberly L is another great voice. She should make it until the end.

Clay is my man. Goofy looking and maybe an image consultant can work with him but I like the guy.

Rickey. Lawd Rickey. How did you make it this far? He may survive another week because Josh was horrible. Josh should be sent back with his Marine Corps unit.

The rest of 'em I don't really care much about accept the other Kimberly. She's okay.

You MUST read the (now) weekly recaps of AI II in the Chit Chat forum.

My favs: Trenyce (although she has some misses with the song selections). Clay (simply because I admire folks who use their voice as the "first instrument") and Ruuuuben because he's all big and happy. I dislike Rickey, Josh and on most days Carmen. I have my hit and misses with KimC and KimL, although KimL is starting to show promise: but I'm not sure I'd buy her CD.

I guess my whole challenge with the actual promotion of the winner of AI after the show is my age: I'm at an age where the songs need to "mean" something to me in order for me to buy the CD. Rachelle Farrell, Vivian Green, Alanis Morisette, others. I look for a certain "complexity" in the songwriting and/or muscianship that is probably oppositional to what the winner of AI will have to produce.

I'd probably be more likely to buy something from the winner of Nashville Star (who are singer/songwriters).
