Help us

Morale is pretty low with my girls...we're trying to restart our chapter and we're having a hard time meeting the 15 girl quota. Our university is HUGE, and I know there are people out there, we just can't find them. If you hang a sign it's covered by someone else's already in a day or two, or just never noticed amidst all the other ones. Since we're not existing yet, we don't get the rush mailings or benefits of advertising. Does anyone have any suggestions? What events work? What catches eyes?

thanks girls

Well word of mouth is always a good idea. As a charter member I know how difficult it is to find people to fulfill your goal. You need 15 girls to summit the petition. Go up to band members tell them what SAI is and what it represents and invite them to a meeting, go up to choir members and do the same. basically tell them you are looking for sisters who are strong in music. You will find that sometimes that is the best way to go. Putting up flyers is a good idea, but if they are being covered, then maybe you need to scrap the idea. Good luck

my chapter's vpm was reading this and she said to try this....
get a list of elligible people (either from the music department or the university it's self) and send a letter inviting the girls to come to things and get to know you. also when my chapters started the founding mothers would make announcements at ensambles to let people know what was going on. also try posters instead of signs, they are bigger and people will notice them more!

good luck

Just lines from a greeky person

PR, PR, PR!

Put ads in your school's news paper, Tri Siama just did a cute one here "28 girls wishing to help others find a home, come meet the sisters of Sigma Sigma Sigma"

Wear letters if you can, if not, wear words... or even a shirt that says "Ask me about SAI" or something like that... even "Ask me about my dedication to music"

Be catchy! on posters (as my roomie said to use) USE COLOR...

Come up with some cool sayings that are S-something, A-something, I-something. We have fun ones for TBS, To Be S___ its cool and people like to see whats gonna be next.

See if you can get a bulliten board in the music dpt. Update often.

Keep your webpage updated if you have one.

TALK TO PEOPLE! You may not know of their interest in music!!

Send notices to other GLO's on campus and other orgs, to be read at their meetings - members of other orgs can join SAI, and they might! They will be awesome members cos they already know about the dedication it takes to be greek!

Bring in sisters from other chapters to help recruit... they will be visible because there are a lot of them - just remember to tell PNMs that they are from another chapter.

Have a table at your schools activities day if you do one.

Have a fun fundraiser/meet the sisters where you can raise money and meet people!!

Participate in as many thigns as possible, community service days are great ways to meet people.

and the best way to get people:

FRIENDS... if someone is your friend - and you think they can do it... make them your sister. Then they will have friends who can become your sisters. Its a great way of getting people!

Do something public. Around lunch time, sell or give away candy bars that have slips of paper promoting SAI and maybe advertising a rush event, making it clear that there is no obligation. Host movie nights that have something to do with women and music. For example, Moulin Rouge, Wizard of Oz, or Funny Girl. Or, talk to your chancellor and see if you can organize a concert in or outside of your student center some afternoon. Otherwise, print out pamphlets or slips of paper and hand them out to girls that you know are involved in band or choir, telling them that they should consider coming to an obligation-free event. Or try to get an interview/ad/ or even a shoutout on the campus radio station. Be resourceful, use connections. Good luck!
