An examplary Alpha Gam!
Hi, all --
Today I returned from the AAUW national convention that was held in Austin, TX. Convention was four days of learning, networking, celebrating, and appreciating. (www.aauw.org will tell you more abou the organization -- I encourage all of you who are college graduates to join! AAUW works for education and equity for all women and girls, and positive societal change.) My seatmate on the flight from Austin to Chicago was was a woman I first met several years ago, Linda Souter. She is the 1998-2001 president of the International Federation of University Women (www.ifuw.org) and the former president of the Canadian Federation of University Women. We talked at length. She said she'd gone to McGill University in Montreal, and it turns out that she is an Alpha Gam! It's too late to nominate her for Distinguished Citizen for this Convention, but I certainly will for 2003! |
Oops!
That's "exemplary"! (I guess I didn't set a very good exemple <g>.) |
Speaking of exemplary women...
The Vice President of Student Affairs at UH-Manoa is none other than an Alpha Gam. Dr. Doris Ching was selected by IHQ to join our organization and she was initiated into the Delta Sigma chapter at the 1993 Convention in Chicago. Despite her position and the responsibilities that come with it (she's probably one of the few--if not the only--females with an executive position on campus), Doris still manages to devote much of her time to not only AGD and our philanthropies, but for many other charities in our community. Her commitment to the quality of our student services and her dedication to UH's students is what makes her special. For a great article about Doris, check this out from the Spring 98 issue of our Quarterly: http://www.alphagammadelta.org/spr983.html **On a side note: I'm the only one at work who can get away with calling her "Doris". My co-workers and supervisors *MUST* refer to her as Dr. Ching...but you know how it is--each sister will be called by her given name! ***This is O/T: Does anyone know for sure if they're going to postpone the 2003 Convention? It would make sense that they do so to coincide with the Centennial celebration, right? |
Yes, there will be NO Convention in 2003. They are going to have TLC in 2002 and 2003 so that Convention will be 2004. Where it will be is still unknown.

The 2004 convention is the one I will make sure to be at, even if it is on the West Coast. But don't you think it would be in New York at Alpha?

It would make more sense to hold it at Syracuse. It'd be so awesome to get to see the campus where it all started. |
I'm so excited about 2004 that I'm already saving my nickels and dimes! It will be an expensive year for me because I'll be going to Convention, and my family is having a reunion in Athens for the 2004 Olympics. I'll be so poor by the time that year is out but I don't care! The memories will be worth it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I can't wait till 2004 to go to Convention still as a Chapter Advisor. Hopefully by that Convention we (Theta Phi), won't be last in line to sit.
