Beta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha

Many of you who have been reading the boards for awhile knew that the Beta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha was in trouble. Well, it all came to an end last night. Our nationals informed us (through our advisors) that we are closed, effective immediatly. No Greek Week, no ASA/Teke Volleyball, no exchanges...nothing. In fact they even went so far as to tell us that if we get together and it looks like it could be an ASA event from an outsider's perspective we're screwed. I am very upset, seeing as thought they told us that we could at least be open until the end of the semester....but I guess there is nothing more that can be said...except hello alumna status.

My dear sister Jess -

I am hurting for you more than you know.

There are lots more things I could say but I will PM you.

I'm here for you if you want to vent, cry, scream or anything.

Love in ASA and especially mine,
Sheila

That sucks. Will you be closed no matter what? If so, then you might as well have fun. If you have fun and will be closed or if you don't and still are closed...then you might as well have fun, if you catch my drift.

What happened?

My condolences.

I'm so sorry to heart about your chapter's closing...I can't even imagine the heartbreak that you and your chapter sisters feel right now.

GeekyPenguin 03-25-2003 05:31 PM

I'm very sorry to hear that. It's always sad to see a chapter go. :(

Jess -

I was so sorry to hear about this. I talked to Dawn H. last night and this morning and she was just heartbroken. I know how hard you guys worked this semester to get your numbers up, and it's a very sad day for WIU's greek community and the wonderful ladies of ASA. You ladies were always sweet, classy ladies, and Macomb will not be the same without you.

You guys are in my thoughts.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I know a member of your chapter because she transferred from my school to yours and I know how much she loves ASA. I hope that you girls still find some way to continue to share your bond even though it sounds like you're not allowed to gather together (which I can't see how they'd have any control over that).

Good luck and I'm sorry. :(

Thanks for all the support, our nationals was playing the numbers game and I guess we didn't play right since we refused to bid every girl that walked through the door. It sucks, but nationals wanted the numbers and that's all they were concerned about. I'm sad to see us go, but I'm more stress free right now then I have ever been, because it feels like I built my entire life this semester around ASA, and while, like I said, I'm sad to see it go, I'm not missing the weekly (sometimes daily) interest parties, and constantly persuing every woman I see who doesn't have Greek letters on. The battle is over, we lost, but it's over. I've cried my tears, and I'll have plenty of time to be depressed during Greek Week, Senior Week, and every time I see a girl in letters on campus....but right at this moment, I'm enjoying the break.

I am very sorry to hear about the decision to close your chapter. The same thing happened with the ASA chapters at Ball State and Indiana in the 90's. It all came down to numbers. Both were great chapters too. It seems sometimes like it is just a big numbers game. A chapter can be smaller and still be quality!

AlphaSigLana 03-27-2003 03:12 PM

Well as a former ASA, I believe that Nationals needs to get their heads out of a certain place. They keep pushing numbers and then threatening to kick off houses that don't get a lot of girls, basically my chapter only cut the amount Panhell required during formal recruitment. So basically we gave bids to everyone, got a lot of people who didn't care, had a lot of deactivations and Nationals wants to know what's wrong?!!!! Um maybe you should stop worrying about numbers (we always get a decent number even if it isn't quota) and worry about getting quality girls. Stop the threats and do some changes!!!!! I wouldn't be suprised to see more chapters go in the next few years.
Any ASA's that read this-- I'm sorry if my posting offended you.
