I don't get a ton of business but the extra money that it provides helps put a small dent in my debt. ;)

I have a Mary Kay business, which is similar to owning a franchise of a major company.

I will be opening my own tax business in 2-3 years in Cape Canaveral, FL. I am currently working in the tax business in Atlanta (although I live in Cape Canaveral) learning how to operate my own business ect. I'm here for the season. I love that it's only a 4 month a year business, and if you operate it right you can make enough money to last all year, only working four months. :-) Thats a major plus!

I have a small real estate venture going in Milwaukee and I want to start one in San Francisco.

I may also be in the process of opening a certain number of bars in the Milwaukee area.

There's another small company that a buddy and I started but we've kinda put it off because we are both really busy with our jobs.

None of them have really made me any serious kind of cash yet but I have patience.

I've realized that with anything in life, nothing is real until the checks are cashed and cleared at the bank.

I'm not getting my hopes up about it, but I'm working right now on starting a foods business. It might happen, it might not. Who knows.

I own a GE Security Pro dealership. We are an IL licensed electronic security company. Security as in alarm systems, access control, video surveillance, weapons detection etc. Alot of times when I say security, people think I'm mean financial "securities".

I have 2 large scale installations going right now. One is for a regional department store and the other is for a mass transit district. Talk about stress.

The best advice I can give anyone is to make sure you have enough money backing you. Either a bank line of credit, business loan or savings. I started this company 2 years ago on two nickels and alot of prayer. It's been rough, but it's grown quite alot and sales have tripled this year. We were able to land several medium to large jobs within a few months. Only by the grace of God.

I had several years experience ( I worked in sales for a large international security company) and a brother with 15 years project management experience. It's very important that you have real world experience in the business you choose to start. It also makes it a bit easier to get financial backing.

Also, if there is a chapter of SCORE near you check them out. SCORE is a national group consisting of retired businessmen who offer FREE advice to start up businesses. There located at your local chamber of commerce. Everone starting a business should consult with them. They can help you with a business plan which is essential for financial assistance. The chamber of commerce can also point you in the right direction to get a loan from the SBA.

There's nothing like working for yourself. There's risk of course, but if you are successful it's all worth it.

I started my Greek apparel business in February of this year. Still trying to advertise and get the word out. Problem is my products look better in person, but until the funds roll in to be a vendor or get my own store, I have to rely on my website. Check it out!;) www.designzbydestiny.com
