Never going to find...
I swear, I'm never going to find a job. I have less than 2 months til graduation. I have a huge stack of rejection letters. The radio station I thought was a "sure thing" turned out not to be. Turns out they had already hired someone when they fired my former boss.
I'm so bummed! I would consider going to grad school, but I'm not anticipating the prospect of spending another 2 years in school! Get me out already! Ugh! I feel like such a loser....... Why won't anyone hire me?!?!?!?! |
Jess,
Whatever you do, stay the hell away from Clear Channel. Are you looking for on-air or sales? Try the smaller, locally-owned stations...you might not get paid as much, but you will most likely get to do more and have more say-so, especially if you're on-air. Problem is, with voice tracking becoming more common, seasoned pros are having a hard time finding a job, let alone recent grads. Here's a site where they discuss the radio biz in general: www.radio-info.com |
I felt the same way when I was about to graduate. So I posted my resume on Monster.com, careerbuilder.com, and hotjobs.com. Everyone started calling me, and soon enough I found a job that I really liked and paid well. It'll come, but you can't stress yourself out too much about it. Have patience and don't think that you are a loser! Just think of all the places that are passing up an oppurtunity to work with you! You're a Phi Sig, and they just don't know what they could've had!!! Cheer up!:D

Jess,
Good luck with the job search. Definitely don't give up on it yet. In the meantime have you thought of applying for a Phi Sig field staff position (the old chapter consultant position)? It would help you make some great contacts and also add one more thing to the resume to make you stand out from among all the other candidates when applying for jobs? Heres what came through an email from CO about the field staff position: Did you know that few Americans love their jobs? In addition, as the economy slows, jobs in almost every field are becoming increasingly harder to find. Candidates for jobs need some competitive edge, especially if they want jobs they will truly enjoy. What will give you the advantage over other job applicants? As a member of Phi Sigma Sigma, you have a wonderful opportunity available to you: become part of the Phi Sigma Sigma Field Staff. Not only will you be following your passion, you will also be gaining valuable experience in the skills that are critical for any job and especially, any job interview: communication skills, problem solving, conflict resolution, resourcefulness, and confidence. Working for Phi Sigma Sigma could be your competitive edge. One of the greatest ways to learn how you can acquire professional skills while supporting Phi Sigma Sigma is to hear from past staff members personally--field representatives, graduate assistants and chapter consultants. Over the next two weeks, Phi Sigma Sigma will be featuring stories from past field staff members. At the same time we will be seeking members to fill their shoes. If you are graduating in May and either seeking full or part time employment or attending graduate school, you could be part of the 2003-2004 field staff. Ability and willingness to travel or relocate for a year are all you need. Phi Sigma Sigma takes care of the rest. contact CO for more info. |
