Scared to travel?

To any of you traveling over Spring Break (not necessarily anywhere cool, just in general):
How do you feel about flying/being in a different place?? Are you gonna do anything different???
Me, I'm not scared that a hijacker is gonna take over some charter flight I"m on, where you have to buy the hotel and food and party package with it, lol....but it scares me to think that I could come back to America in a week and have it be totally different.
Also, they've been saying on the news that they're afraid terrorists will fire land to air missiles at the planes landing and taking off at major airports like O'Hare.

Thoughts? Fears? Worries???

I'm actually flying tomorrow. I'm not too worried. But, I'm flying to NYC...and tomorrow is the 48-hour war deadline. That's what I'm worried about...Being in NYC if war breaks out. The possibility of not being able to get back home. The only thing that is actually making me feel safe and calm is that I'll be with my mom. She is my all, my world. So, if something DOES happen, at least we'll be together!

In the words of Mr. T.

I pity the 'foo' who tries to hijack an airplane!

Seriously though, I think that passengers are a little likely to comply with anyone carrying boxcutters or anything else. They'd better be packing some serious heat if they think that method will still work.

ok, here's another thing I forgot to add.....

It's also scary to think that you're going to another country (like Mexico) or even another city, like New York right at the midst of war declaration......they've been saying it's only a matter of time until we see suicide bombers here in the states.....I don't know, just seems like the time could be now :(

Either way it's not going to change how I go about my daily life, but it's definitely scary to think about.

Some of my really close friends are in Mexico right now, and while I don't think their lives are in any real danger, it scares me that they're out of the country at such a strange time. You're right -- it's so weird to picture that you might leave the country and by the time you come back it could be an entirely different place.

I'm feeling a little strange about traveling. I am not flying anywhere anytime soon, but my grandmother leaves Tampa to go back to NYC on Saturday. My sister is flying to Maine and then back to Phoenix. She's also moving to Japan over the summer. So, I'm a little worried about all of that. With her moving to Japan I am worried about this illness that is going around Southeast Asia. She'll be about six months pregnant when she leaves this summer.

Oh yeah, I'm going to Disney World this weekend. I leave Wednesday night. I'm a little concerned and I was feeling
a little guilty. After speaking to my father, I feel a little better.

Ever since 9/11 I have made it a point to travel with pigskin driving gloves and a ham sandwich in my briefcase. If any Bin Laden follower makes his move to take over the plane he gets a knuckle sandwich, is defiled for touching pork, and then lets see how he feels about the whole business. Anyway, for the next few weeks I expect my travelling will be done by an M1A2 rather than an airplane.

I'm going to NYC in two weeks with my group of seniors for their senior trip. I can't even imagine what this is going to do to our plans. I hope we still go, but I don't really have any control over the decision. :(

I'm not scared to travel myself. Just a couple of weeks ago I was in Hong Kong, despite the avian flu scare. (Fortunately I did not bring the bug back with me! Beautiful city, btw.) I was also overseas when the Gulf War broke out.

But, I am concerned for my husband. He is currently in Europe and due back on Thursday. Yep, his plane is due to take off just a few hours after Bush's 48 hours are up. Mainly, I'm concerned because he is flying into a New York airport. But if I made it home safe in the middle of the Gulf War... I'm sure he will too. :)

A lot of the local school districts in western CT have cancelled all international field trips. Some have even gone so far as to cancel all interstate trips. Yep, this means they can't go 5 miles west into New York.

To everyone traveling in the next few days - stay safe. :)

(It goes without saying that I hope our troops come home safe too!)

Well, as much as I used to fly, and having many weird things happen and being close to so many things that were catastrophic:

Just after the OPEC Ministers were trying to be kiddnapped! In Austria. Flying out of NY and changed plains, did not get , I changed flights, he went on a plane full of TNT!

Same airport, rebuilt after it was blown up!

Ended up In Wash. DC, going to St. Louis!

Plane in Omaha bad battery, Louisvile, plane broke, DC to KC, struck by lighting! Crosswing into Italy and Hungary where people had big machine guns!

If and when OUR PRES! goes in to IRAQ, do not even think about going! Hell security will be so tight, you will have to pee down your pants!

Ever been In Mexico and so damn glad you are back? If try and the USA Govt. feels you are dirty, they put your American Ass Back to Mexico! Know That!?

I guess you Kids never have been there done it or may never do it!

But right now, beeeee COOOOL!

DeltAlum 03-18-2003 08:06 PM

Mrs. DeltAlum and I have airline travel plans in a couple of weeks. Our son is home for Spring Break, and had originally planned to fly to NYC tomorrow and return on Sunday. That plan was cancelled -- but not due to the war -- plans with friends simply fell through. He flies back to school Sunday.

Wife is a little worried, but no problem for me. I'd get on a plane tomorrow (the 48 hour deadline day)

Side note to DekeGuy -- keep the sand out of your barrel, pal. I'm not convinced that this war is necessary at this time, but am totally in support of you and the other men and women over there carrying out your mission. GodSpeed to you all, and come home safely.

I'm flying on Sat., March 22. I'm going to Montrael through Chicago. I think if anything will happen at all it will be in Chicago. I'm a little nervous, but I think chances are fairly slim that something will actually happen. We will see......

AXJules 03-18-2003 08:25 PM

a little off topic (hell, I don't care, it's my thread)....why do you feel the greatest likelihood of attack is in Chicago? B/c of O'Hare?

Lisa Fishman 03-18-2003 08:31 PM

I just think it will be O'Hare over Montrael, Canada. Heck, it could be any thoer US city just the same. I just thought it would be less likely in Canada.

Lisa Fishman 03-18-2003 08:33 PM

I just think it will be O'Hare compared to Montrael, Canada. Heck, it could be any thoer US city just the same. I just thought it would be less likely in Canada.
