washing letters

Hey, how do you guy/girls wash your sweatshirts with letters on them... i just recently washed a new set of letters.

Flipped it inside out, Used Cheer with Color Guard, and Dried it normally...

now i find few of the stitches comming off...

I want my sweater to last a long time is there a better way of washing them, should i just dry clean them??

thanks

Hmmm, I personally have never had a prob. with my letter shirts or sweaters when I washed them. However, I never put them in the dryer. I hang dry them.

Maybe they were not made properly?

PS...Welcome to GC!!

I hang dry mine as well, even the ones that aren't sewn remain in tact (yeah, I know, I need to get them sewn).

1) Don't dry clean them - drycleaning is quite harsh on fabric as the chemicals are quite strong.

2) What I would do is, don't put your sweatshirts in the dryer, but don't hang them up either (they'll stretch out from the weight of being damp). Place a towel on the carpet or floor and lay out your still damp sweatshirt on it.

3) You might want to try the gentle wash cycle too, just so that the washer drum is not agitating as vigorously. Maybe use cold or warm. Don't use HOT!

interesting... i have never had a problem washing letters. and i just throw them in with the rest of my clothes. the only problem i have had is the fabric in the letters fades or gets all balled up.

I usually just throw my shirts in the washer AND dryer with everything else. I still have my first lettered sweatshirt, which I had made back in 1996, and it's in really good condition. If the letters or stitching are starting to fall off take it back!
