Trying to find my "big"

This may be a strange post to receive and I am not sure if you will be able to assist me, but I figure it is worth a try! Back in 1990-1991 I was a Pledge for Delta Zeta-Gamma Xi. Unfortuanatlly I left NMSU prior to initiation and have since moved to Colorado. I am looking to contact my "big" or maybe if possible relay my information to her. Her name is Georgie and forgive me but I can't remember her last name. She did live in the house at that time and is from Las Cruces. I hope there is some way of locating her. If you can let me know, or point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. I know it has been many years and is a long shot but any information would be appreciated. I truly enjoyed my experience as a DZ Pledge and if I only had time to do it again!!!!! I miss that sisterhood. Great web-site, it is nice to know that I can always stay up-to-date with the "sisters". Thanks again!

Hello, Brooke :)
Have you contacted Delta Zeta National Headquarters to ask about Georgie? Even without her last name, I'm sure the information you are able to give them will enable them to track her down. I'm not sure if they'd give out any of her information, but at the very least you could give yours to them to pass on to her. You can find the phone number for National HQ on the website.

Best of luck!

Hello Brooke,
As you can see KillarneyRose gives great advice! Even though I am a Delta Gamma, rather than a Delta Zeta, I wanted to respond as well.

From your post, my intuition is telling me that you loved Delta Zeta very much as a pledge and that you still do; part of me is also picking up some feelings of regret that you were never initiated into full membership with Delta Zeta?

I just wanted to point you to a story which is similar to yours, about a DG who was pledged but not initiated. I am so proud and happy to say that she "found her way home" some 15 years later when she was alumna initiated into Delta Gamma about a month or 2 ago. That story can be found here. If you still have such a strong connection to Delta Zeta, perhaps it is worth exploring the possibility of alumnae initaition into Delta Zeta?

Feel free to come to the Alumni Forum, we have plenty of alumnae initiation discussion going on there! Alumni Forums.

Lastly, I hope that you find Georgie! :D

CutiePie---

God! That would be GREAT!!!!! I have always felt like something was missing. Both of my (real) sisters are DZ's and I feel like I just miss a special "something" with them! I don't even know where I would start this process! There is one question I have however? I never did graduate from College!? :( I am not sure if that would be a factor or not, but I do know that I could offer so much to the "sisters." Any other info. would be appreciated! IF ONLY IT COULD BE MY "DREAM COME TRUE"!!!

Thanks again soooo much...you really put a smile on my face today!

Pledge missing "Something"

Hi Brooke,
I am so delighted that my post was of benefit to you!
Please do come to the Alumni forum...- we'd LOVE to have you and you will get lots of support from other women who are pursuing Alumnae Initiation or who already have done it! :D (I myself am an Alumna Initiate of Delta Gamma). There are 2 women are pursuing Alumnae Initiation right now (although not with Delta Zeta) and one woman was initiated into Gamma Phi Beta on April 9th. I so HEAR YOU when you say "I felt like something was missing", because I felt the same way before I was initiated into DG (I was part of a colony that never succeeded).

Be sure to check out My Advice to Prospective Alumnae Initiates!

As for where to start, I would speak to your sisters and tell them that you would like to explore the possibility of being an alumna initiate and would they be willing to sponsor you? I would also write up some sort of a document/statement as to why you still want to be initiated into Delta Zeta, etc. This could go along with your sisters' letters of intent to sponsor you.

As for the "I did not graduate from college" - I would not let this sway you. Some NPC sororities want a degree (and in some cases will waive this requirement) and others do not want a degree but perhaps 2 years of college. I don't know that much about DZ's requirements, since I am not one, so hopefully there are some DZ's who can help out!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you! :D
