Housing Question....

I have directed this question at our housing corp. but I'm not sure when they're respond back or if they'll even know...but we're having trouble filling our house and might lose it. Does anyone know if Independants/nonaffilated women are allowed to live in our ASA houses??? I know this sounds weird that we're having trouble recruiting women yet might be able to get them to live in our house but on our campus you are required to live in the dorms until after 60 hours or your sophmore year, and I know how dying I was to get out of the dorms...plus the house is actually cheaper then the dorms...and if we can get these women in our house, maybe they'll change their mind...

We had independents in our house with no prob, although we didn't have a housing corp (we just rented from the landlords who owned all the sorority houses) so you might have a different story. Isn't your house fairly new? I think I remember seeing it featured in the Phoenix, or maybe that was Delta Kappa. Keep calling the housing corp until you get a straight answer, and I mean every day until they give you a yes or no. This is important.

If you do rent to independents, try to get the kind of girls who go home to visit the boyfriend every weekend or even older students or grad students. I know it seems like it might be a good source of potential members, but trust me that can get veeeeeeeeery sticky. It's better to rent to people who just need a place to sleep.

I don't think independants can. I know the only time we do is when a girl living in teh house deactivates--but she must fulfill her lease. Plus we have so many sorority events at the house--that it sucks when a girl deacitvates bc she basically has to get lost when we have rituals, meetings, sisterhoods etc. Who wants to live somewhere and be told when they are allowed to be there? We constantly had trouble filling the house-- so housing corp would threaten to do a lottery where they draw names, a few years (a different housing corp at that time) ago they threatened to take away our pins.
