New Member Things!
 

Hi Sisters!

I don't know about all of you guys, but for me, one of the most exciting parts of my time as a Delta Zeta was the new member period. I love it all...and I'm sure that each stage of membership is going to bring new experiences and memories...but I think that as we get older, we forget about the beginning of our time in chapter.

Soooo...what was your favorite part of your new member period and did you guys do anything special as a new member?

I'll go first...
I think the best part for me was meeting everyone for the first time. We'd all go to dinner together after meeting and we had Rosie and Ghostie letters where we'd write to older sisters anonymously as a way to learn about them, chapter, and school. It was a blast and we exchanged paddles...it was my first one and I still have it hanging up.:p

I just loved the attention.... My chapter treated pledges (I'm kind of old school) like gold, and it was awesome to feel wanted & like someone was proud of us--just for being ourselves!

Bid day was terribly exciting for me...and I loved when I got my big sis (I was lucky-she was the best, and still is 15 years later!!!).

The whole thing rocked!

I loved interviewing the sisters. I don't know if this is done anymore (probably not), but when I was a pledge we had to interview each sister and have her sign our notebook before we could get initiated. I enjoyed it a lot because it gave me the chance for one on one time with each sister and the opportunity to get to know them as individuals. I still have my pledge notebook and every once in awhile I pull it out and read through it. :)

Also, during I-week the sisters wrote the pledges individual letters telling us how much they loved us, were excited for us, were looking forward to calling us "sister". I LOVED those letters; still have those too!

My favorite part of my new member was getting my big sis. Im not sure how this works at other schools, but within your new member time, you make a list of 10 girls you want as your big. You get your big when you make that list but you dont know who it is. Its like a 3 week period where they play all these tricks on you to totally mess with you. And then, the week of initiation you find out. It was so exciting for me and now my big and I are so close. Its also very emotional and that is one time that will always stick with me and always be so specail to me!!
