Not Yet a Sister
Hey girls, my name is Alaina and I just joined this board. I am very excited to be here.. I am a senior in highschool and i hope to join tri-sig this coming fall. any info on what being part of this sororiety is like would be VERY helpful. Thanks so much for the time... I cannot wait to possible become a sister.
Thanks! |
How do you know you want to be a part of Tri Sigma?
|
I have been doing my greek homework and checking out my options. I've always known that I wanted to join a sororiety, but I never knew which one to join. Tri Sig is my top choice right now based on the background knowledge I've obtained through my research. Of course I still have the whole pledging process to go through, so I guess we will see where I end up.
TTYL! |
Good luck with your search...just keep in mind that everything a soroity believes in is important...but the most important thing is the girls themselves. Nothing against Tri Sigma as a whole, but I pledged them and ended up dropping as the girls in that particular chapter were not what I would want to consider my sister. Out of the 33 girls in my pledge class, which did fill quota, 15 girls dropped for the same reason. However, I did go back out again and have been the happiest these 2 past years with my experience in Alpha Phi.

Thank you for your kind suggestion! That was very thoughtful of you. Like i said in my first post, I am only a senior in highschool, so there is much more I must learn. I am also considering Delta Zeta, I like what they stand for as well. The time of truth is when I can actually meet and talk with the girls of each. I will be attending a smaller college, roughly 7000 students. What do you think i should do to get to know the girls better? I don't want to come on to strong b/c it may seem like I'm trying to hard. I have my email address in profile. Thanks a bunch!

I'm glad you've shown an interest in Tri Sigma, and I want you to know that just because one person had a bad experience with their chapter doesn't mean that you will. I think it's good to try to get a feel for the sororities on your campus before going into recruitment. However, recruitment is the period where you will find out if being a Sigma at your school is right for you. I would love to answer any general questions you have about Tri Sigma or greek life in general. I hope that your research continues to go well and that you have a great senior year.:)

Where will you be attending college?
(and just a note, make sure and don't call us Tri Sigs or Tri-Sig, it's Tri Sigma or Sigma....just a note :) |
trisigmaAtl - thanks for your kind words! My main questions are in the entire beginning phase of the sorority process -such as rush (what to expect, wear, etc...) and the months after rush. what are my chances of being rejected... things like that. any info having to do w/ the initiating process would be quite helpful.
TriSigmaTX - I will be attending college in Thibodaux, La (which is where I am from actually) at a college called Nicholls State University (NSU)- there are about 7000 students there so it's not too small, but not too big either. Thanks for letting me know about the lingo! I apologize for that-- I'm not well-informed w/ those kind of things. As you can tell, I know very little about certain terms used in the greek language. Thanks for all of your support and help! |
I never said to not join Tri Sigma or anything like that...I was just saying that it is important to know a sorority's beliefs but ultimately it is about the girls that you will get to know. Practically every sorority stands for the remotely the same beliefs, but it's up to the girls themselves in that chapter as to how they interact with one another and how they conduct themselves as sisters. That is the most important thing...these girls will be your sister whether you like it or not, and you will not have a second choice to choose another if you are initiated.
|
I TOTALLY knew what you meant. I'm sorry that you were offended. You are completely correct in that these girls are your sisters. I know that I have to be careful in choosing which sorority I want to be. Thanks for warning me!

I would like to post a reply to alaina....
I don't want to bog you down with a lot of information that may not make much sense to you yet, but I want to just compliment you on doing something I think MANY women need to do: research sororities. We research colleges, foundations, etc. Why shouldn't we research an organization to which we want to make a lifelong committment? I really commend you. If you feel that Tri Sigma is for you, I am very touched, first of all :), and second, find you mature beyond even MY years! I would just like to remind those on here who are already Greeks, NPHC PNMs are EXPECTED to not only be highly familiar with the organization they want to join, but are also expected to have a "resume" of sorts full of community service, have attended events sponsored by their sorority of choice, to have spoken to alumnae of that org and obtained a recommendation, and to basically have made themselves known to the chapter members. Alaina appears to be doing what I really feel more women who are looking at NPC sororities should be doing. Recruitment is mutually selective. Yes, she may not know the women at Nicholls State quite yet, but if she loves our sorority already, I am very flattered and would love to know more about her personally. More over, I am confident that she will become familiar these women. Alaina, if you can find a Tri Sigma alumna before you matriculate, I would speak to her, let her know you are interested, and see if she would be willing to fill out an alumnae recommendation form. You can then bring it with you to recruitment...Make your interest known...If your interest is genuine, that will shine through! |
sigmagrrl- I was SO touched by your kind words, thank you very much. I'm glad that you noticed just how wholeheartedily interested I am in greeklife in general. I will continue to research local sororities until I find the one that suits me best. I have a neighbor who is a junior at NSU and I am pretty sure that she is in Tri Sigma, so I will try to talk to her this week about specifics on Tri Sigma at the college I will be attending.
I anxiously await college and meeting new girls who will hopefully become my sisters, in the meantime, thanks for your overly kind words of support. Girls like you are the reason I look forward to joining a sorority-- possibly even Tri Sigma. |
Alainmarie,
Gamma Pi, the chapter you're looking at NSU is a great chapter with wonderful women! Of course I don't know you, but I think just about anyone would fit in there. They are wonderful women who anyone would want to get to know. Good luck and I may know a few alumnae from there, I'll try to think of a few you could get in touch with. It's been a while since I've been there. Good luck! |
Thanks very much! That's nice of you-- and VERY helpful. You are talkin about Nicholls State Univ., right? I just wanted to make sure we were talkin about the same college, just in case. Thanks so much, I look forward to hearing back from you. My email address is in my profile. Thanks!

You can also do your research and still be turned down as well. I spent months talking to older alumni and finding out info on the orgs on my former campus to no avail. By the time I graduated, you couldn't have paid me to become greek.
