Yeah, I heard about it. There was also an incident the night before involving a shotgun being fired in the air on their balcony.

I don't mean to offend anyone or make any allegations, but lately, I've heard of at least 3 chapters of Tau Kappa Epsilon that have gone around International HQs and/or the University in order to keep a chapter established... the first was my own campus, where they formed a colony outside the University's expansion period (just before we opened it actually and they knew we were opening for expansion soon). The chapter got really out of hand and had a lot of sanctions put on them for various reasons. They made it into the top 10 for our formal expansion process, but I don't know if they'll make it all the way.

I also heard about an east coast chapter (can't remember which one- someone on GC talked to me about it), who did nearly the same thing. Both of these cases are how the chapter is affiliated with the IH, but not with the University, I suppose. And now there's this one, who is affiliated with the University (somehow) but not with the IH. Not to be accusatory because I'm sure it happens to other chapters all over and they just aren't talked about, but it just strikes me as odd that three chapters of TKE in the past year have had issues like this.

No TKE chapter should be active without IHQ's ok. TKE IHQ supports its chapters fully and if IHQ doesn't agree with the University when it comes to expansion or allegations against a chapter, it will keep the chapters open anyways. They don't follow the "if they don't want us we will close the chapter" rules some fraternties follow. It is well know fraternities alot of times get the raw end of the deal. The school and fraternity do not always agree with punishments if a chapter has done something bad. If IHQ feels closing a chapter is too harsh then they won't. They do and have closed chapters when the situation calls for it. A lot of time schools will want to close a chapter of any fraternity on mere allegations alone. I am glad IHQ has its chapters' back, I expect them to because that is the way it should be.

it has been scary here is sd this weekend...there was a small stand off with the cops and a guy in a stolen car, shots fires at tke, and then in the parking structure across from fraternity row someone was shot.... it has never been like this. i know that the guy who got shot in the parking structure was caused by an arguement about a high school basketball game being played oncampus here. but it is still scary to know that this is happening at your home.

So what.

I would rather be part of a national that actually stands up for their chapters than some lame-ass national that bails every time their is a minor indescretion.

Wait a minute. You're in San Diego, right? This shit happens daily out there, whats the big surprise? Its not like SD is in poh-dunk Kentucky.

Our TKE chapter operates in the same way. Not recognized by IFC or the school.. They were originally kicked off for a combination of reasons but the "final straw" reason the university gave was just dumb (it was kind of out of the ordinary but I've seen other groups get away with MUCH worse). I'm personally glad that they've stuck it out. They would have carried grades (according to their own calculations) had they been recognized during a few semesters.

Um...you've obviously never been to Louisville before...

Why has this turned into a TKE-bashing thread? Maybe we should stick to what this thread is supposed to be about.
