Unusual A Phi pin on eBay
|
gee imagaine that!
gee could you not be more shocked to see who is the high bidder on this pin?!
This man NEEDS to be outbid more often! Laura |
I swear, if it weren't for the fact that I have to pay tuition next week, I'd try to outbid him. :(
|
Its an old badge but not a lazy phi one sooooo I may bid if I can but not that high.

I'd try to just snipe it at the end. tyoregon has admitted that he likes to drive up the price just to be a jerk. Don't bid on it yet.
|
Good advice, astroAPhi. I might try to snag it, which would be SWEET.. my first A Phi pin (other than my own, of course) ;)

I think he and the other "pin collectors" help each other out by bidding on each other's items to drive the price up. What do you all think?
|
I think you have a point there, SATX.
|
Yeah, b/c he will bid on items "just to drive the price up" as others have said. I was bidding on a pin that he outbid me on and I was like "forget it" (for lack of a better word :p). I let him win because why am I going to pay an outrageous amount just because he wanted to raise the price?? I let him win. Do you all really think he is some multi-millionaire that can afford to buy badge after badge at ridiculously high prices?? Perhaps he is, but who knows. It irks me that I can't ever bid on a badge w/o him intruding!

Maybe he turns around and sells them at auction. I've been thinking of going to some estate sales and antique sales in the area to see if I can find some A Phi pins locally. With the exchange rate, the prices on eBay get out of my range quickly.

All of the pins that TyOrgon bids on go to his daughter who is an Alpha Phi. While it is frustrating that he wins so many auctions, another Alpha Phi who's met him before asked me to think of it this way: none of us like that he outbids Phis who would treasure the badges or return them to the Fraternity but he has the money to buy the pins and can outbid anyone he wants. Why not make sure we have a positive relationship with him so that we can pursuade him to let us to have access to some of our historically significant badges that he purchases for his daughter? Isn't it better to at least know where the badges are and that they are with an Alpha Phi rather than have them go to random pin collectors around the world?
I am not condoning his bidding wars or anything else, just asking you to think of all sides of the issue. |
Again, please forgive me for crashing your board, but does tyoregon have an ADPi daughter, too? He's really skyrocketed the price on more than a few of our pins, too!
I can see both sides to the pin collecting arguement; I just have trouble with someone who wants ALL of them, not just a sample of each! honeychile |
I was wondering about that too, honeychile: he seems to collect from several different sororities with the explanation that "my daughter is an (insert group name here)." I suppose there's no way to legitimately know if he's telling the truth, but it would be nice if he didn't drive up the price quite so high.
