Showtime @ The Apollo: The New Format
Greetings all,
I stopped by today to simply pose a few questions in regards to the new format of Showtime at the Apollo. For the past couple of weekends, I happen to catch the show and noticed that the format of the show has totally changed. I'm not sure how everyone else feels, but I've observed the following changes that may have taken away from the overall sustance of the show: 1. Where the h*ll is the REAL sandmand? Now-a-days, they have some joker jumping off the balcony area in street clothes, tap dancing like somebody's fool??? 2. What the h*ll is that "whomp-whomp" noise Monqiue often prompts the crowd to yell, instead of the original Apollo "boos" that we've all come so familiar with? 3. Where the h*ll is KeKe Shepard? 4. Why does each performance in the amature competition seem like you're at real live concert. Band and all (though I am fond of the Ricky Minor band...:) 5. I'm not racist or anything, but why did I see a slew of white people out in the audience...constantly throughout the show? Nothings wrong with it, but....IMO, something don't seem right? 6. Where's is that lady that ALWAYS sat in the front row of every show? I looked forward to see her each Saturday:p Overall, I guess it's cool one way or the other, but you can certainly tell the difference. My room-mate watched the new format for the first time last night. His response to the changes were "WTF?" Just wanted to get a few opinions. |
NOOOOOO!!!!!
No more KeKe Shepard!
Where is Mr. Sandman? |
Here's the deal
Somebody bought the Apollo Theater. The man did not want to pay Rudy Rush and KeKe Shepard but he still wanted to have "Showtime at the Apollo." So, he hired Mo'Nique to host the show instead. The real Showtime at the Apollo is now called "Showtime in Harlem." It is in a different theater but it is the original show with the same band, format, and sandman. |
I do not care for the new format as well.
- The "new sandman" looks like a mugger, hopping off the balcony like he is getting ready to jack you or something. now I understand why the real sandman quit because after all, he was pretty old, but they didn't have to change the whole sandman format. -Ohhh, I HATE  that dag on "whomp, whomp" mess! Boo at Monique for even coming up with that and Boo on the Showtime in Harlem staff for hyping her up, like it was cute! -I think the old lady that was always up front passed away (R.I.P.)a while back. To me, it just seems so, so....comercial, for lack of a better term. Well, it looks like another one bites the dust....first Soul Train and now this.... :( |
I tune in every week just to see what Mo'Nique is gonna be wearing.
