Greek Info help

I am asking my friends on GreekChat to help me again. For my Fraternity education I am helping my sisters learn a little bit about each Sorority and Fraternity on campus. The Sunday that we kick of Greek Week, March 22nd, I am going to have a quiz where the sister and new member who does the best gets a "prize." http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili...ty/yelclap.gif

But I am sitting here like a crazy person some nights at my computer trying to find information on some of the chapters! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/pcangry.gif

So, can I please get some help trying to find this information for these chapters??? http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili.../multijump.gif Sigma Gamma Rho, Alpha Phi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Lambda Chi Alpha Phi Beta Sigma, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Delta Rho, and Omega Psi Phi.

I am just giving them information like:
-when and where they were founded
-national website address
-motto
-colors
-mascot (if you have one)
-flower
-jewel
-philanthropy
-where National Headquarter is located
-name of publication
-interesting facts (including famous alumni/alumnae)

I am sorry this is so longwinded, but I have literally been at my computer for the last four hours working on Theta Chi and Alpha Phi. I have been doing this every weekend this semester. http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili...d/nixweiss.gif And I figured I may cut this time down some if I came and asked for some help here!!!

You can send me a PM, IM me at MsBullwnkl, or better yet - post it here so everyone can learn (I am learning a whole lot myself doing this project!!!!)

Thanks so much in advance.

Aside from the fact that your animated icons almost sent me into a seizure, I'd recommend you find a copy of Baird's Manual, which will answer all your questions about hundreds of GLOs.

Check the online used bookstores and auction sites. They're not cheap and can sell anywhere from $40 up to $100, maybe more.

That's the resource you need. Good luck.

Good luck on the used Baird's!! I've had it "wishlisted" for over a year, with not a single notice!

I'd help you if I could, Ms Bullwinkle, but I'm a little time-poor right now myself. Good luck!

Really? I wishlisted it on Amazon.com and I had a response in a few weeks. I feel very fortunate now :)

Okay so maybe the icons were a bit much. But I was trying to get myself awake! Sorry about that.

As for the Baird's, I have tried to find one not only on campus but at the local library.... NO LUCK!!! That is why I am here. Plus, I am on a bit of a time crunch myself in a couple of cases. I am still hoping that I can get my hands on a Baird's but it hasn't been easy. So I hear ya! Thanks for the suggestion. Until I can, I am hoping some people can help me this way....

Like I said, they're not cheap. But there are two (1940 and 1949) on AbeBooks right now (I just checked) for about $100. These books are the bibles of fraternity/sorority research and run 800 - 900 pages.

They are worth it if you are serious. I have six volumes myself and would be caught dead without them. Go for it. (No, I'm not selling any of these).

Just trying to steer you in the right direction.

This is a godsend and maintained by a GC'er. Has most of the information youre looking for. Should be a help.

Also try www.nicindy.org for the National Interfraternity Conferences' home page...that has a list of alumni in entertainment and sports. Also has some links to other good pages with info.

Try greekpages.com

It can be checked by each Org. Go to taht Org. and then to their National Site for info!

Good Luck!!!

Just a suggestion

Would it be possible for you to write a bunch of questions down and have your sisters go to the actual houses and ask active members the questions??

Maybe they would retain the info when they are hearing it from someone new, and maybe even meet some people in the process.

Meredith,

Each of those groups has a national web page - just visit it and all the information you need will be there.

For the NPHC groups, you can link to them all via: www.nphc.org.

For the NIC fraternities, just go to www.nicindy.org.

Actually, I believe that many of the fraternities' webpages do not contain that info. I've been to a few looking for it, and it's always either not there or extremely difficult to find.
