Stress!!!!!!!!

Oh my! My Vice-President is so stressed and that, of course, rubs off on me. Our chapter's VP is such a sweetheart. This is her senior year, and I know that she wants to make the most of her Beta experience. She is really motivated, and I appreciate her so much. I just worry because she has become frustrated with the other sisters who are happily marching along through the semester without too much concern about getting things done. There are definitely things that need to be accomplished and plans to be made. Don't get me wrong...everyone has worked hard to get this chapter on its feet. I couldn't be prouder. Our Rush committee has planned a fantastic Rush, and our officers are really top notch. All of my sisters have wonderful ideas, and they are great at planning events. So...I really don't have any right to be stressed out. I'm just looking for any advice on how I can help my VP to have a fulfilling, memorable year without overwhelming my more laid back sisters.

Erica the worrier!

I think anytime you have a fledgling or under-recognized chapter, the stress level is high, no matter how well things are going.

I know when I was president of DO, that I was just always stressed, even though things were running relatively smoothly... but we were a small chapter and not well recognized on campus, so I felt like I always had to be representing DO and getting our name out, etc.

Just remember, the world will not end. It just plain won't, no matter what. You have done an AMAZING job getting your chapter on its feet - it'll be okay!!

*hugs*

Just call me the stress nazi

No stress for you!

Seriously, you gals are doing wonderfully. Try having a fun night where absolutely NO BUSINESS TALK is allowed. If she's graduating this semester, and for anyone else that is, consider some kind of really special graduation or senior get together honoring them. It doesn't have to be anything big - just make one rule - she's not allowed to plan or delegate any of it.

I read a wonderful book by Joyce Meyer this week on the power of words. Keep telling her, and make her say out loud when she gets frustrated that things are going wonderfully, everyone is doing a great job, and things will continue to go wonderfully. Maybe it will relax her some.

Hang in there!

hugs
Crystal

Thanks!

Ginger--Thanks for the boost of confidence. I know that we will get past this little stumbling block. It's great to know that I have my GC friends cheering me on. Communication is a big problem for our group, so that is the first thing that needs fixing.

Crystal--I love Joyce Meyer! I was just watching her on TV this morning. I think your idea of doing something special for our senior member is great. We have one other sister who is spending next year in Italy, so we could honor her at the same time.

I love Beta Sigma Phi...even when the craziness of running things gets to me!!

Beta Hugs Always,
Erica

RE:ideas to help reduce communication issues used by other Greek orgs.:)

Hi fellow Beta's and Beta's-to-be,

In response to the Post by Erica RE: stress that mentioned a communiction issue.

One idea might be to talk to the chapter about signing up for a FREE Yahoo groups (Y groups). ). A recent search I did in Y groups showed at least 50-60 Greek organizations using this medium to stay in contact with each other locally and around the U.S.

A Y-groups account lets you do the following with one email address: Share photos & files, plan events, send a newsletter stay in touch with friends, sorority sisters and family Discuss agenda items, poll members sports, health, current events, etc.

You can also arrange it to have it moderated or un-moderated (sisters or members only) and it is easy to update. http://groups.yahoo.com/

A second idea to consider would be to decide as a group on a free “chat medium” such as instant chat in Yahoo where each member signs up for a free Yahoo email account (it has the same type of emoticons, color selections, fonts, etc. as this Greek chat forum) or start a chat room in mIRC. Our BSP Online chapter just started using mIRC this past weekend to see if this works any better for us as Yahoo. So far the only draw back I can see with this medium is that it takes a little bit more to add color, change fonts, etc. Hope this helps:) (edited post on 2/21)

How did that relate?

For those wondering how my posts relates...(not to be a "smartie-pants" or anything but)

Erica had posted a the original message about Stress and in the reply back she had mentioned the COMMUNICATION problem that existed within her chapter (if I'm not mistaken - perhaps I read the post the wrong way).

I am only 36 but have been around long enough to have seen a couple of groups (Greek and non-Greek) that fold because of communication issues. So I offered an idea that may help reduce the communication issue since communication is important part in ANY group. It may help to have an additional way for the sisters of BSP-Delta Pi to speak to each other either online or by posting current issues, etc. Some groups do not know about or have considered using either of the above mediums to help reduce communication issues. Sorry I did not post it the day I saw the post - my server kept bumping me off.

Thanks!

I figured you were addressing the issue of communication. Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, several of our sisters are kind of anti-computer. That's part of why communication has been so rocky for us.

Sometimes people come on GreekChat to advertise their services (kind of a no-no), and your post might have been mistaken for a Yahoo Group plug. No offense. You just sound quite professional;)

Thanks again for your input.

Erica

I thought the same as Erica - you sound very professional, and with the amount of advertising on here.... Sorry for the confusion!

:)
