AU DGs love Phi Tau!
Aww, the sweetest thing happened at chapter last night! Some of the gentlemen came over from Phi Kappa Tau to introduce themselves. They said that historically, they are our brother fraternity, so they told us if we ever need anything to ask them! And since their flower is the red carnation, they brought all 120 of us each a red carnation!! All the girls in the room went "AWWW" at the same time! It was so cute!!

I don't know if PKT is your "brother fraternity" at AU, but if we have a national "brother fraternity," it's Phi Delta Theta. PKT was one of the founding members of TEAM (along with DG, AXO and another fraternity I'm forgetting!?!), and I know that the advisor of PKT chapter on our campus always liked our chapter because of that.

Very classy thing for PKT to do! One of their moms is an Auburn DG alum who was there last weekend. Tau Kappa Epsilon also claims the red carnation as their fraternity flower. TKE is also re-establishing its chapter at Auburn. You will learn about Phi Delta Theta and DG in the next few weeks! Glad to have you as a new sister. Roll Tide!

ACK!!
Ladies, Sorry to split hairs but when it comes to my Delta Gee, I have to speak up! :) Delta Gamma does NOT have a brother fraternity!! If you wish to pair up with another fraternity on your campus and do stuff together, that might be an "informal arrangement" but I can definitely tell you that DG does not have a brother fraternity and it's incorrect to say that DG has a brother fraternity.. As for Phi Delta Theta, yes George Banta (who was a Phi Delta Theta) is Delta Gamma's only male initiate, and Delta Gamma owes much to George Banta for his role in getting other DG chapters founded when women's colleges in the South were closing left, right and centre. Because of that Banta connection, yes, there is a "special relationship" there (I suppose you could say), Phi Delta Theta is officially not our "brother" fraternity (you should find more details in your copy of Watchwords). Also, this is good too: http://www.deltagamma.org/brother_fr...lta_theta.html It was basically explained to me once by a National DG Officer that yes, Delta Gamma owes a lot to George Banta, but that same "obligation" does not extend to all Phi Delta Thetas, you know what I mean? ------------------------------------- That being said, that was very sweet of the Phi Tau's to come over and give you all flowers. That's really sweet. I remember when I was being a supportive alumna and some Fiji's came over and gave the new DG members cream color roses (because they knew that was DG's flower)....apparently they went to 4 or 5 florists before their search was successful! Awwwwwww..... :D |
Its funny that you mention how cool DGs are with Phi Taus at AU b/c here at Clemson, a lot of the DGs know a lot of the Phi Taus and hang out with them a lot. I know one of my really good friends in DG claims one of the Phi Tau's as her big brother here and she's not the only one who has this kind of relationship with some of their brothers. Glad to hear that other chapters have close relations with Phi Tau!!

PKTMom and AUDG
Hi--I'm the AUDG mentioned in an earlier reply that has sons in PKT--I have informed my two sons also that they are not our brother Fraternity and that we don't actually have a brother fraternity-It was very sweet of them to bring the carnations to you but I did ask why not Cream Roses--They never even thought of bringing you the DG Flower --they wanted you to have their flower so you would remember them-They were very excited about coming to your Chapter meeting and introducing themselves. They called me as they were leaving to tell me what they had done- Hope all is going well with all of you girls-We are all very excited about being in Auburn next weekend for all of the events. I will make sure that I meet you next weekend--
Forgot one thing----WAR EAGLE!!!! |
