Birthdays

I was wondering what, if anything, other ASA chapters do for sisters' birthdays? We really don't do anything and I really think that we should. A sister asked me why birthdays pass by and no one even acknowledges them half the time and I had to agree with her. I think that doing something special could really strenghten our sisterhood. I don't need anything big (and we don't have a house) but any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Livvy - we didn't really do anything either, except of course everyone knew when a sister turned 21 ;). Maybe announce at the first meeting of the month who has a birthday that month?

we usually announce that week in chapter if it's somebody's bday... and if we have something planned on their bday we usually sing happy bday and they get a little like pin that says it's my bday or wish me happy bday... something little that the bday chair usually makes

We have a sunshine chair who's in charge of keeping track of birthdays (and thank you cards, get well wishes, etc) and she annouces birthdays weekly at chapter meetings and presents the sister with a card and we sing happy birthday. Usualy the sunshine chair announces birthdays the sunday before the birthday actually occurs, so that serves as a reminder for anyone who wants to wish happy birthdays in person or make plans.

Katie- do you know Nancianna Derek??? She's our Alumni Advisor for the new Anchorage, Alaska colony, and has been such an amazing friend and help with getting our colony off the ground. She's from Chicago, and has mentioned a sunshine chair. :)

No, I don't know Nancianna Derek. It's possible that's she's an alumae from before I got here -- I've only in ASA for about a year and a half now. Do you know what chapter she's from? I'm from Delta Eta at DePaul University.

Katie - Nancianna is a founding member of the Zeta Phi chapter at IIT in Chicago. She did mention a sunshine chair a few times, it's neat that your chapter has that position also - good idea!

My name is Jenny Jones, and I'm the founding president of the new UAA colony of Alpha Sigma Alpha in Alaska. I'm so glad Molly found this site! We have had so much fun this year with our colonization and all... looking forward to a lifetime of fun and friendships.
