a wedding question

hey out there- one of our sisters is getting married this spring, and there are a bunch of us in and attending the wedding. i would like to do something nice from all the azd's that are there, but none of us can sing so i don''t think we can do a candelight. does anyone have any good ideas?

I've heard a general tradition is to gather round the bride at the reception and do an AZD song. Pick one that's a chant or cheer or something lively that doesn't require any singing talent! Or maybe (if there's a DJ) request a song that's special to her or to the chapter or whatever, and watch the tears flow! :)

Delta Psi

I am getting married in June and Delta psi always does the same thing each time one of our girls gets married. We always do the candlelight at the reception and when the song is over and the bride blows out the candle then the bride and groom dance in the middle of the circle for a special song played by the DJ. To honor all of the AZD sisters in attendance and not just the ones that are bridesmaids, the bride designates one sister to coordinate the event. That sister makes sure to have one pink rose for each sister in attendance. they carry these roses throughout the ceromony and reception, that way all of the guests know who the Alpha Xi's are. It is a very special honor the bride bestows on that sister to put this part together. Usually at the reception we all take a large photograph with each other and sometimes even the bride has a special pink rose bouquet made for the picture, or the candlelight can be used. we have many other ideas if you need them.

Ummmm ... is a candlelight the same thing as a candlepass? Sorry, I've just never heard the term before!

for my wedding, i'm making all of my sisters in attendance a pink rose corsage with our the ribbon in our colors so that they dont have to carry a rose all night long

That is a very nice idea! When are you getting married? Only 2 more weeks for me!!!! Also, my bridesmaids and maid of honor and I are also wearing our quill on our bouquets during the ceremony. The photography is going to take a close-up of all the bouquets together so you can see the quills. If it looks good, I am going to send the pic. to the Quill.

It is funny to see this thread, bc after attending my first greek wedding with my new bf who is a Phi Tau (bride and groom were both greek) - I came online to ask the same type of question.

The bride was a Sigma Kappa, the groom was a Phi Tau and I didnt know if it was a just a chapter thing, but the SK sisters and the bride got in this big circle and did the little rockette kick and sang to "Come On Eileen". Then the Phi Tau brothers got in a circle with the groom and sang a song then they all picked him up over their heads and threw him up in the air.

This prompted me to wonder if each individual chapter had their own thing they did or what. i love the idea of the Quill and the corsages!

My chapter has a very cool tradition revolving around the song "hey look and see". On Bid Day when all of our new members run to us we welcome them by screaming "hey look and see". After the PNMs are pledged in all the actives sing, "hey look and see" inserting the word "pin" for "quill" since they don't have it yet. After the girls initiation all the actives sing it again, with the word "quill". When a sister gets married, after she throws the bouquet, all the AXiDs in attendence pull the bride to a chair and sing "hey look and see" this time replacing Quill with "ring".

This song is one of my chapter's favorites because we actually chant it and all get really loud.
I was surpised at TLC last summer when i found myself talking about the song with someone else and found out that her chapter actually sings it slowly! I can't imagine doing anything but clapping and screaming it as a chant...i guess that's why it's one of my favorite songs:)
