Sigma Kappa at IU

Hello ladies!
My name is Kelly and I go to Indiana University. A few of us down here are interested in re-colonization of Sigma Kappa. I heard that there used to be a chapter here but they are no longer around...
Does anyone know if that is true?
If it is...does anyone know why they are no longer here?

Also...any information regarding re-colonization would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Kelly McFarling

Hi Kelly:)

I am so thrilled that you and your friends are interested in recolonizing Sigma Kappa. However, there are certain rules and procedures that must be followed in order to bring your goal to fruition. I would like to refer you to our national website. Click on ABOUT SIGMA KAPPA. Then click on CHAPTER INSTALLATIONS. Here you can read about how to bring Sigma Kappa to your campus.

Please keep me up to date on your progress. Also, if there is anything I can do, or if you should have any questions, feel free to email me.

Yes, there was a Sigma Kappa chapter there. Our advisor here at my chatper is from the IU Sigma Kappa.

But like Shopgirl said there are procedures that you need to follow. I wish you the best.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info...Does anyone know why they deactivated?

I have started contacting the Panhellenic and the National Headquarters (They are actually located right down the street from where I went to High School in Indy). Hopefully something will come out of this. So far we have about 14 girls who are very interested and we haven't even began to post signs or anything!

Well, thanks for the info!

Kelly

Hey Kelly, this isn't really related to Sigma Kappa, but it sorta ties in. Tri Sigma is looking to recolonize here sometime in the future. They've made an exploratory campus visit and are now exploring housing opportunities. I've been a part of the Tri Sigma interest group for a year now. I had contacted the Panhel office about expansion last January and that's when they told me about SSS. They also said that it would be very difficult to try to colonize two sororities at once. Just a heads up.

Hey there...thanks for the heads up. Tri-Sigs was another of the GLO's I have been looking into. Do you have any more info about them actually colonizing?

Kelly, I sent you a pm.

No Sigma Kappa

Erin Schneider sent me an e-mail telling me they wont re-colonize at IU...oh well...Their loss!

Dove Gal 02-09-2003 03:59 PM

Did Ms. Schneider say why they would not recolonize at IU? I think that they closed IU chapter because of low membership (someone please correct me if I am wrong). You are right it's their lost. I hope that you still will think about us in the future. You can always go to an alum chapter to initate.

I dont know if low membership is the problem...I do know we have over 20 chapters on campus and 19 of them have houses. Each house has around 100-150 women in it...The chapters without houses have offices in our IMU (Indiana Memorial Union)IU is very focused around the Greek community so I dont know what the problem is...
