P.E.O. -- Secret Woman's Society

I ran across this on ebay. After looking at the images, it looks like there are/were quite a bit of chapters around. Does anybody know anything about this? Any speculations?

I did a search and found a web site for the org. Very interesting.

All I know is that my grandma was State of Nebraska President when I was born... and that she sounded a little miffed when she found out I hadn't been asked to join. :p

PEO may have been secret years ago but no longer is. It's a women's service/social group and it has many chapters nationwide. Some local groups in college towns actually affliated or were absorbed into NPC groups. When I was growing up I always thought of it as elitist and for those with big bucks----it still can be, but not necessarily so. One of my sorority sisters also belongs to PEO. She doesn't have the bucks but her grandmother was a big wig in it years ago.

DB&G, you didn't mention the AXD connection!

PEO was originally started by college women, but they got more and more adult chapters, until the decision was made to close the collegiate chapters. Chapter S of PEO at Iowa Wesleyan had to close - and chose to become AXD's Beta chapter. So there have been quite a few "double" sisters over the years.

The are mainly philanthropic nowadays, and their efforts go toward women's education. They own Cottey College in Missouri, among other endeavors.

THIS is what I was looking for. :) I knew there had to be "double" sisters somewhere. Thanks for the info!
