University of Louisville sororities???

I have a friend who started U of L(she's a frehsman). She has finally found her calling to be Greek(after hanging around her brother, a Sigma Chi legacy and her brother's girlfriend, a Phi Sig). So, after talking with her about Greek life, I decided to take it a step further and find out about the sororities there.
Anyone can comment on them. I just need to find some basic info.

Who has a house(dorms, etc)?
Who has the strongest history on campus?
Who has the most involvment in community service and philanthrophy?
Who is the most welcoming group?

Just stuff like that. . .
I want her to know this kind of stuff before she joins a sorority just to be in one.
I would tell her to go to the websites but they are all either outdated or not all of them are on the website.

Now, now, WC! You have been around here long enough now to know what kind of a response you will get from that question!!! :p

"My friend Suzie goes there and she is a Mu Mu and they are THE best!!! But she says the Alpha Alpha Alpha's haze like crazy!!!"

"Well, when I was there, the tri-Alphas were the dorks! But the tri-Betas, now they were tops!"

"Oh yeah, well my friend's sister's neice got asked by a tri-Beta what her dad did for a living! And she got cut for driving a Taurus!!!"

Etc., etc., etc....I would suggest she hit the Greek Life page on the school website if they have one.

P.S. I know you were asking questions about history and philanthropic efforts - "good" things- but you know it will still turn crazy on ya!!!!

Good luck in your info seeking and good luck to your friend! Keep us posted on her!

Did you check http://www.louisville.edu/rso/greek.html ?

There are 6 Panhellenic sororities at Louisville. The greek life page also lists Alpha Sigma Kappa and Delta Sigma Theta with websites. Two of these sites (Alpha Omicron Pi and Pi Beta Phi) are very current, updated within the past week. Three sites (Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta and Sigma Kappa) appear to have been last updated in December 2002, and one site (Chi Omega) is the only one that appears outdated of the 6 sites.

As for your housing questions, 5 of the 6 have houses and one (AOII) is housed in a multi-room suite. Only one (Sigma Kappa) of those 5 actually own their house and (I believe) the property it sits upon. Not all houses are residential, and those that are hold approx. 6-12 residents, max. The university will be building a new "Community Park" style housing/dorm area, including housing for 5-10 GLOs (see http://www.louisville.edu/student/vp...munitypark.htm for more info.)

I'm sure you know, things like strongest history/most welcoming/ involved philanthropy/ etc. are both part factual and opinion. Every sorority is going to say "we're the best, we're the most welcoming/diverse/charitable/etc." It depends on what your friend is looking for, and what each chapter at Louisville could offer to her. What ABC might be at one school may and will be completely different for ABC at Louisville <G>.

My chapter is the youngest of the 6, but is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. Some chapters have been there since the 1920s. Chapters that were incredibly strong when I was in school now aren't as strong. Chapters that appeared to be in danger of closing are now extremely strong chapters.

If you have any other questions, PM me. I'll answer as impartially as possible, although I am and shall remain incredibly biased when it comes to sororities at Louisville.

we already went to the website. most of them aren't updated. we did look at DZ and AOII though. initially, we went on there to see if there was anything about any informal recruitment events that they are having. no one had anything.

FYI--Spring Recruitment was held back in January. She can contact the Greek Affairs office also for more info about the sororities and any activities they may be hosting this semester. That office is in the SAC, and should be located on the 3rd floor.

I know that AOII is holding open activities right now. For more info, visit http://www.louisville.edu/rso/AOII and click on the link in the "Always AOII" section! That will take you to the entire list of activities right now. (Alternative link at http://www.louisville.edu/rso/AOII/events_list.html)

I believe there was also supposed to be some coverage of the events in the campus paper. You'd better believe I think the world of the wonderful young women who are my Pi Alpha chapter sisters!
