The Score is: Dump Truck 1, Saturn 0

Hi all, I'm back after being away for a couple of days due to my car (an 11-month-old Saturn SL1) being creamed by a dump truck on Thursday morning. :( I was on my way to work when it happened. I was attempting to make a left turn, but I had to wait in the middle of the intersection because someone decided to make a right turn from the opposite direction onto the same street I was turning on. So, while I'm waiting for the person making the right to stop blocking my way, a giant red dump truck ran through the yellow-going-on-red light, slammed into the front of my car, and spun me around (I had been facing about 11 o'clock and I ended up at about 3 o'clock). I was very very lucky that the only thing I hurt was my knee, which flew up into the steering wheel when I was hit. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance to get x-rays, but it wasn't broken, just bruised. My car isn't drivable, and I have to call today to see if it's totaled or if (ihopeihopeihope) it's fixable. I'm starting to feel sick to my stomach even thinking about the possibility of having to buy a new car. :( :( :(

Good news! My car is fixable. YAY!!! I feel so much better now. So, the first hurdle is cleared, and next I have to find out what the police report says when I pick it up this afternoon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the other driver is held responsible so that my insurance doesn't go up too much.

Well I am glad that your car is fixable but more glad that we won't have to have a Get-Well Better flower drive or worse!
Hope that everything works out okay and if you need anything please send us all word.

I'm glad too! :)

I'm with Arin on this one--you can always fix or replace the car...but YOU cannot be replaced! I'm SO glad that you are OK. (I know, I know, I sound like a broken record!) :)

Bah, the police report says that I'm at fault. I figured as such, since I was turning (even though I was there first and I think the dump truck was going too fast). I talked with my friend whose dad is a police officer and she said that I can't really fight it because they usually assign the blame to the person turning. So, it looks like my insurance is going to go waaay up now. :( But, trying to look on the bright side, I am ok and my car will be ok and I did get a raise this year so I will be able to afford the insurance.

Thanks for your well-wishes! It's so nice having sisterly support. :)

Maria took the words right out of mout on this. Four days after I bought my new car I was driving it out of town to show my parents my brand new car. Well, thirty minutes after I left town to go to my destination CRASH!!!! The driver of the other car was not hurt and neither was I. As Maria said you can replace the metal, but you cannot always replace people. Sorry this happened.

Maria may know more, but can you not fight that. If you can prove that the dump truck was speeding and did run the yellow light can you not prove your innocents. I know that it might be hard to prove those things but depending on where you live there might be camera footage, along with eye witness reports. i don't know the details and i don't know if these things would work but it would be worth the shot!

Arin, sorry about the car and the insurance, but the title of this thread is too funny! ;)
