bid questions !!! HELP !!!!

Ok guys, I was just wondering if anyone had any answers to my many questions about informal rush!! Im going through this week and panellenic said that the sororities cant give any bids until Friday. Thursday I have 2 parties at houses ive already been to and then tonight a different house that i visited Mon. called and explained that they werent allowed to give the bids till Fri, but theyd hope to see me there then. Ok im really confused, ive never been through rush before and this is just becoming way complicated ?? What happens when you get bids during informal rush vs. formal??? Are there lists , etc.??? Any help in clarifying would be great !!!! There are only 4 houses rushing and there are probably 50 girls going through, if this helps !
thanks

Sounds like you're basically confused about wording. Here's some definitions --

~ a bid during informal rush isn't binding. That means XYZ sorority gives you a bid, which might say something like, "The Sisters of XYZ Sorority Extend To You A Bid of Sisterhood," and you have the OPTION of weather to accept or decline the bid. Usually you have 24 hours to decide. NPC lets you postphone the bid for 1 year, I think, where you can tell XYZ you want to join but not actually join until the next year. During informal rush you can receive as many bids as the sororities want to give you.

~ a bid during formal rush is binding. You only get one. You accept that bid or you don't join a sorority that year. You can also defer for a year, I think.

The lists are for formal rush. If XYZ sorority has 50 girls come to their preference party (which means XYZ would be OK with having any of the 50 girls join the sisterhood) they rank the girls at the end of the party. That means they'd like Melissa to join the most, so they put her at the top of their list.

Now, if Melissa went to a preference party at XYZ but also at ABC, and she felt like she belonged at ABC, she might list ABC first on her preference list.

In this way sororities rank potential members, AND potential members rank sororities. The lists are crossed, and girls are matched with sororities they ranked high on their lists, and vice versa.

as far as I understand during informal the chapters on a campus below total can give out bids until they reach total... there is no lists or bid matching...

Is this true everywhere? When I went through formal rush, I received two bids.

Wow. I completely thought it worked that way with all NPC groups....

At my school it works the same way. You can only get one bid during formal recruitment. But for informal and COB'ing you can get multiple bids.

Greek Girl-- how exactly do they run formal rush at your school so that you got two bids?

Do you have snap bidding???

This is the second year that I've done formal rush ( thank god its over) and I still don't understand everything. We do formal rush the same as it was explained above... how is your different?

What you'll find with informal recruitment is that campuses differ even more than they do with formal recruitment. There aren't really any rules in the NPC green book regarding informal recruitment except that you are allowed to do it (depending on your campus' rules). That's why there are sooo many different variations.

If you can I would speak with your collegiate panhellenic's president or if you have someone in charge of greek affairs on your campus they may be able to help you.
