Thank You Hollywood
You guys have just dropped my iq even lower with Kangoroo (sp?) Jack. It was already low because of Ghost Ship.
|
Well, look at the top 5 this past weekend:
1) Darkness Falls 2) Kangaroo Jack 3) Chicago 4) Just Married 5) National Security While Gangs of New York, a (somewhat) accurate representation of an untold era of our history, never got higher than 3rd. On www.rottentomatoes.com , only Chicago got a fresh rating. It's just become the norm for directors to include boring cliches and formulas, and use fast action scenes for smart dialouge and great cinematography. People's attention spans have gotten shorter, and more people cater to it by flashing from one scene to another filled with chases and explosions. I think that every idea for a good movie has been made, because most movies these days are just dumb rehashes of much better movies that were done long ago. Every romantic comedy basically tells the same story, with the only attempt to be original being trying to create new sight gags, which get old. And most movies that should never have had sequels are getting them just to cash in on the success of the original. I'm sorry if I follow what others say, but I try to watch what movie critics say about particualr movies, because most of the time I'm on the same level as they are. I want to be intellectually stimulated, I want something that makes me think. I'm tired of seeing jokes about masterbation, defecation and regurgitation. Ah well, I guess I'm in the minority. |
Stan, I agree with you 110%. However, I read an article lately from a studio executive where he says we claim to want originality yet most of the top grossing movies this year were sequels. There's a weird discrepancy between what we say and what actually sells.
I am truly dismayed that anyone over the age of 12 went to see Kangaroo Jack and anyone period went to see National Security. As long as they make money though, they will continue to be made. |
The only movie from that list that I've seen - and the only one I plan on ever seeing period is Chicago.
I used to love those dumb 20-something movies - like Just married - now I want something that can get my attention and keep it, something with the smart dialogue, interesting and more complicated plot... |

I'm sorry that you wasted your time with Kangaroo Jack, but why would you go and see it in the first place? I could have told you it was shit just from the ads. |

Hey, STFU.
I saw Kangaroo Jack TWICE. |
I don't really care if a movie is intellectually stimulating or not...as long as it is funny as hell or scares me crapless.
But I must admit, a lot of these popular movies are insults to peoples intelligence. |

What? That was a horrible movie! It was "too long"! Everyone knows that! [/SARCASM] |
I can't believe some of those movies were even made. Still, View from top has Christina Apellegate. She is pretty.
