How are your chapters handling sisters and brothers being deployed?

The only person I know who is at risk of getting called up is the boyfriend of one of my good friends. I've never actually met the guy.

Funny thing is that she insists that she is going to break up with him if he gets called up.

I'm sure this would be a bigger deal to me if someone close to me was getting called up. I personally still oppose the war.

Does that strike anyone else as pretty cold? Talk about adding extra stress.

no kidding... it's not like he can just say "hmm... you know, I don't feel like going, sorry guys"

An extremely good friend of mine got deployment orders last week. I haven't heard from him since Thursday, and I'm afraid he had to go without letting me know.
The boyfriend of one of my sisters is in danger of getting called up, and he asked her if she would marry him if he ended up going to the Persian Gulf. If he goes she'll probably just be up at the house constantly for moral support. We're all trying to deal with friends being deployed right now.

Whoa. That is cold cold cold and damned selfish. It's not as if he's volunteering...God and country called. Even though I oppose the war, that's just dirty.

I don't know any reservists, but having grown up in a military area, I know plenty of people on active duty--all branches, all ranks. If any of these people have to go, I will be one upset little girl. :(

Well, at least country did.

I really hate to see all of you going through this trauma. I remember it so vivdly from the 60's and early 70's.

I pray that we don't get to the casuality levels of the Vietnam era. That is really tough. Real war is generally not like the first Mid-East conflict where we killed 100,000 with only a couple hundred losses of our own. Most of you have never experienced anything but that.

I hope you don't all have to experience a long, protracted, bloody campaign.

Either fight to win in a hurry, or don't get into the conflict in the first place.

****Update on this situation****

the guy reported for duty this past monday. In the end they haven't broken up...yet. They agreed that they would wait for each other for 6 months. After that they will break up.

I guess the reasoning is more for her. She's remarked about things like she's 20 and she can't wait forever for someone. I think that it is likely he won't be back in 6 months since the protests and the UN and a majority of people are against the war and continue to slow down Bush's war mongering ways. She's going to be in Oxford, England when the 6 month mark hits so I figure by that point she'll be hooking up with english boys.

For some reason my chapter attracts a lot of military folks.. Our alumni advisor is a Full Colonel in the National Guard (or Army Reserve, I forget which). We were actually just able to initiate one of our founders that is now serving in Alaska as an Army Ranger. Another brother in the guard was just called up. One has not yet recieved any deployment orders and is not even on alert yet. Another brother joined the army last semester and I'd assume he's overseas somewhere.

Keep all of our soldiers in your prayers.

sae called to duty

a good friend and a great guy got called up last week while i was out of town. fortunately, he was able to come back home this weekend to say goodbye to his brothers at sae and to all of his friends here. it was hard to see him go and to see the tears that were held back tonight.
he and his brothers are constantly in my thoughs and prayers.
Mike Hoffmann - come back safe.
