Director of Music

Hey girls...

The chapter has just asked me to bring back the Director of Music position. I looked online at the song book and it's the one that we already have with our New Member binders, but there's no sheet music, so I don't know how some of these tunes go.

We do know:
Time
Green, Green
All I Needed
EPPO (as evidenced by my sig :p)
Alpha with a Phi (more of a chant)
Forget-me-Not Round
and all those fun ritual songs that I won't mention here...

Are there any other traditional songs that we should know, or are good for New Member ceremonies?

Also, one of our sisters is getting married in November. My goal was for us to learn this song by her wedding because our former President told us we were supposed to sing this song at her wedding. Is this true? It seems more like something you'd sing at Graduation. I found it as 36 in the online song book to the tune "Smile a While".

I was going to contact the Tampa Bay Alumni Chapter (what wonderful ladies they are!) and ask them about this, but I figured I'd check here first. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh my gosh, I thought that list was a list of songs that you DIDN'T know! Ahhh, don't scare me like that! I really don't know many other songs, as our chapter doesn't really sing unless need be. :)

Good God, that would be awful if we didn't know those!

SATX*APhi 01-22-2003 01:26 AM

Hahaha, yes I know! :p

"Yaz" and "Warm and Gentle Girls" are both really good ones and two of my favorites.

Sistermadly 01-22-2003 03:14 AM

I don't know any of the songs.. hopefully that'll change in the next few weeks!

Sistermadly 01-22-2003 03:16 AM

Another thing...

If there's a school of music at your university (or on a nearby campus), see if there's a music library there, and talk to the reference librarian. They can possibly lead you to sheet music and/or recordings of the old standards that many of the songs are based on.

Doesn't international have a cd with all the songs on it, or am I just making that up?

I remember back right after my chapter was first installed an alum had to call a friend in another state to get her to sing us a song because we had to memorize it. Our Dir. of Music had to listen to her sing it over the phone and memorize it, and then teach it to us. That's the hard way to learn new songs! :)

There is a CD and there is sheet music. If you call the office they can put you through to the right person to get a copy of the resources you need.

Our NM Educator bought the packet and donated it to the chapter, so there is a CD with all the sheet music. I'm not sure if astroaphi knows this or not, but it's at the house!

astroAPhi 01-23-2003 04:48 PM

Yeah I knew we had the CD, but I had heard it only came with words, not sheet music.

And where is that darn thing? Every time I ask for it, someone says someone else has it.

When our last Prez got married a couple months ago, we sang the I Will Remember You a-phi version. It was awesome!

astroAPhi 01-24-2003 12:52 AM

I usually sing that every year at Formal Recruitment for Pref Night. :)

So, now I went over to the house and found the songbook (thanks oceanphi)... does any one have any suggestions for important songs we should know?

chattychick999 01-24-2003 07:55 PM

We usually refer to it as 'rush' but you all keep calling it 'recruitment'. Are they the same thing? I'm still new, as if you couldn't tell! ;)

astroAPhi 01-24-2003 11:28 PM

We're trying to be PC. :p My sisters use the term Recruitment publicly, but when we're in private we slip back to old habits and call it Rush.
