Gah!

I'm stuck on hold right now with a lady from my insurance company, trying to find a new doctor. My former primary care physican has decided to stop taking my insurance - LOVELY! The lady on the phone says that it is a new thing and that they won't be taking anyone with our insurance anymore, but I know for a fact that half of the school I work for still goes to her. You know, my mom just saw her last week.

I hate having to play the insurance merry-go-round. You never know if you are going to get a good doctor anymore.

YAAAA for Universal Heath Care!!

My insurance was cancelled on my birthday last year, even though I'd sent them several proof of enrollment forms. It took an act of god to get it reinstated. And then the company folded about a month later.

I also say "yay!" for universal health care. Its really hard for some people (including myself) to get insurance, even with conditions that aren't really that serious. I have scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and because of that I'll never be able to get health insurance on my own - I'll have to be part of a large group. So I pretty much have to stay in school, or be employed full-time until I get married, because I can't get it on my own

Another "YAY!" for Universalized Health Care. This is the only way that the poor, elderly, and people whose employers don't insure will get equal health care. Even when people are laid off from their jobs, the employers can offer health benefits for up to 18 months, but you get stuck with the bill. :eek:

I'm pretty lucky, I guess. My parents' insurance covers most of the doctors where I go to school, and the ones at home. It's been hard here finding an eye doctor, but that's just because RI has weird laws about dispensing of contacts and eyeglasses.

The government gave me a card when i was born, whenever i goto a doctor, the hospital, the walk in clinic etc, they swipe the card. I never see a bill, i never have to pay money and i never have to rely on an insurance company to tell me which doctor to go to. The government pays billions of dollars a year so that every person who is legally in the country (regardless of whether they are a landed immigrant, refugee or citizen) has health coverag, whether it be as minor as a cold or as serious as open heart surgury, the government foots the bill.

I'm not really all about universalized health care, honestly. I really do not want the government to know about what I see my doctor about. That just seems to be asking for trouble, in my opinion.

All I really would like is to be able to see a doctor that has been listed as my primary care physican for over a year when I get sick. I spent the majority of the day on the phone trying to figure out what was going on and finding a new PCP. Have I been to the doctor? Nah! When am I seeing the doctor? Next week! :rolleyes:
