Chapter taken away
 

Hey Ladies!
I recently came across this page. I was a new member of the Zeta Mu chapter of Kappa Delta @ Towson University. Due to horrible circumstances our chapter was revoked. I love everything about Kappa Delta and what it had made me. Although we aren't present as a sorority on campus - our friendships are never ending.

Just keep us in your thoughts and word on the street is that the chapter is coming back.

Oh dear..... :( It is so heartbreaking when a chapter closes, but (imho) the most tragic victims of this is the new members at the time of the closing. My chapter (Sigma Xi) went through a similar situation last spring, so I can really sympathize with what you are going through. It's wonderful to hear that all of you are keeping the bond of sisterhood alive. :)

yes, it's wonderful you're keeping the bond alive. HOWEVER, you should be ashamed for your actions that caused you (I'm soeaking to the Towson chapter, no other chapter) to be shut down. And to bring other chapters into your actions, is reprehensible.

If you asked me, national had no other choice then to shut you down.

In response to your statement:
Although many people had tried to judge the situation at hand, little to no people know the real story about what happened. I am not here to discuss that either. The book was thrown hard at us for the actions of our chapter years before.

I'm going to respectfully request as a KD sister that this discussion cease before it gets out of hand, especially if it involves speculation. Or at least let's steer it in a different direction.

Many of us know the basics of what happened, some even know the details (i don't know every detail, but I know some). From what I know from national officers and others that I have spoken to, KD was justified in closing the chapter.

I am incredibly PROUD of KD's stances on hazing and other things that would cause a chapter to close. We don't get bad press and people don't get hurt. By stopping a problem before it's too late, we successfully make the KD experience even better.

While it's sad to lose a chapter, many times it's better off in the long run. It is sad to punish a group at times for a few people's actions, but as a part of a group, that's something you have to accept.

I'm very glad to hear that you have kept the KD bonds. I'm not sure how much you know about KD policies and how involved you were in your chapter, but KD will not be coming back for at least another 4 years. Generally when any chapter (of almost any sorority closes, including KD), the national group waits at least 5 years, for former members to graduate (those who didn't do anything really wrong would have been granted alumna status, as i'm sure you have). This is also to give time for the reputation of the sorority to heal, as others who were on campus at the time the incidents happened will graduate as well.

I'm glad that you girls are keeping the faith, and I really hope that you think (or already have) gotten involved in an alumnae group to keep your KD experience going.

My AA (Pittsburgh, of which I am President) has several women from the recently closed WVU and Bethany chapters that come to events when they can. It's really nice to be able to give them the opportunity to continue their KD experience.
