A problem many chapters face is fallout from their business being discovered. Everything from their financial records to how a line pledged ends up in other people's heads. Many brothers cause this by bragging about pledging and what happened to them when they were on line. Question: Do you agree that loose lips sink ships?

I am not a member of any BLGO, and I hope you don't mind my replying to your question, but I think loose lips sink ships in any organization. Not just in a sororities or fraternities, but in anything that life brings.

It depends what type of info you are talking about.

I'm not exactly sure if what worked for us will work for everybody; but we had meetings 2 weeks before each semester started. We talked about all of our individual and chapter business that got out, and how it could've possibly gotten out. It only worked if all bruhs were honest. What consistently came out of it was that certain brothers ran their mouths to their women-which in turn told their sorors/friends. We also knew the particular bruhs that couldn't keep their mouths shut; so we gave those bruhs only "the general idea"-if you know what I mean. Sometimes we almost had to physically check them; but then they got the point(no pun intended). '06!

You know as well as I do that the kinds of things that should remain in our family only. That's what I'm referring to. Both chapter and individual business.

Yeah Original I do understand what you are talking about...

Everything that goes on in the house should not be talked about outside of the house...
and I feel you on that Girlfriend/Wife thing.

I think that Personal Business and chapter business must be guarded (like secrets)...

Let me start off by saying that I am not a member of any BGLO, but I would like to comment on the issue of loose lips sinking ships. I personally think certain things should remain between members of that particular organization and the members of that organization should be able to decide what is kept secret, however trivial some non-greeks (not me) may think those thing are. Now my grandfather is not a member of a BGLO but he is a Mason and has been one for over 30 years. He and my grandmother have been married for 36 years and he has revealed virtually nothing about that organization in those 36 years. Now does that bother her or the others in the family? No. What goes on between him and his brothers is between him and his brothers. My grandmother and I don't even ask questions about what goes on because I know he would never tell us and I would not disrespect him by asking him anything. He's earned his membership and the right to know what goes on in that organization, I haven't. Just my opinion.

By not pushing those nosey-question buttons shows respect for him, and for the organization.
