So, Two weeks and counting to move out date. I need help.
We have some scratches on our hardwood floors and some areas where I have hung up things using sticky tabs, taken them down and now there are chunks o' wall that came off with then.:eek:

My game plan is to buy matching paint and touch up gaps. I need to know the best way to do this ...

Do I sand down the areas, and then paint, can I take a paint chip to a store to have them make a matching hue?

What can I do to fix scratches on the floors?

And what do you use to fix nail holes?

Get insurance, then burn the apt down.

I move out in 11 days, and can't wait! However E.L. (evil landlord) called this morning to tell me that she's showing my apartment tomorrow morning at 8:30. Ugh. Which means I get to spent my only day off this week cleaning the shit out of the place, since she's the most anal retentive old lady on Earth.

Note: By no stretch of the imagination am I Bob Villa, so you might want to check my info out, but........

I think that you can put caulking stuff in the nail holes, sand them, then paint.

If you are just wanting to fill small nail holes, I would just fill them with toothpaste (it has to be the white toothpaste) ..it fills them up and you don't have to paint (considering that the landlord will be painting your walls anyway for the next tenant.

I'd go with the toothpaste as well for the walls. Every apartment complex that I know about paints in between tenants.

Are you talking about scratches on hardwood floors? You can buy touch up pens for wood. That would probably be your best bet.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I lived in a townhouse for a year and a month before we moved out we had a surprise birthday party for one of my friends. Close to 70 people showed up and we had a few unfixable things happen. We never got charged for anything!!

How weird! I have to move on 2/1 as well!

What about carpet stains?? Any ideas on getting them out?

For carpets, here is what has worked for me:

CANDLE WAX :eek: ok, once the wax hardens, began scraping it up with a spoon. (I had a large spill, so I had to scrape for about 30-45 minutes). Once you have scraped up all you can, vacuum the area (to get up any leftover scrapes) and then scrub the area using a scrub brush and dishwashing liquid. Afer you are done scrubbing, blot area with a cloth and vacuum again..VOILA! the carpet is clean.

For regular stains, I just use Oxy Clean.

For nail holes and gashes, there is a type of wall plaster that is relatively cheap and comes in a big ol' tube and it dries perfectly and blends well. For bad stains, here's a trick I figured out works well on medium to light colored carpet...
1. Pour on a little bit of peroxide (just enough to cover the stained area, but not soaking it)
2. After about 3-5 min. pour on a generous amount of baking soda
3 After 2 minutes pour on a splash of white vinegar and let it bubble up. Then wipe up the stuff (kinda gross, but just wait!)

When it begins to dry, vacuum up and let dry completely. It will completely clean the stain and you'll never know it happened.
I've found that even if the place is in bad shape, if you clean it up really well (sweep, mop, vacuum, spray air freshener) it tends to not appear quite so bad.
