The University of South Carolina.....
.....The University of South Carolina will shortly be advertising (via the NPC newsletter) that they are going to add another NPC sorority to their campus! I was just in Columbia this afternoon to help get a new Gamma Phi Beta alumnae chapter started and had already heard previous rumblings of this news -- it was confirmed today! We Gamma Phi Betas are very excited of course -- we'd LOVE to become the newest Greek Village resident at USC!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D
Currently, these are the NPC sororities at USC (per the USC website): Alpha Chi Omega Alpha Delta Pi Chi Omega Delta Delta Delta Delta Gamma Delta Zeta Kappa Delta Kappa Kappa Gamma Zeta Tau Alpha I'm not sure, but I believe Kappa Alpha Theta de-activated their chapter at USC 2-3 years ago. |
That is wonderful news! And good luck to the new alumnae chapter too!

Exciting expansion news!
Congratulations to all! This is wonderful.

Ok, y'all... I'm not sure how many details that I can give you about this, but this is what I know I can tell you.
Yes, there was a vote for expansion. The sorority which will be coming to USC has not been declared as of right now. As of Fall 2002, all plots which were opened up in the greek village were taken (there were only 15 opened, 9 NPC sororities, 8 NPHC sororities and fraternities, 14 NIC Fraternities), but if there are other plots opened, this sorority will have a chance at one per university/greek life guidelines. Also, someone mentioned Kappa Alpha Theta. I don't know quite how to word this, but they left campus in Fall 2001 and are not eligible to come back until Fall 2006, so they won't be in consideration for chartering, at least not yet. If anyone has any other questions, feel free to PM me. I may or may not be able to answer them, I'll try. |
I was just curious if there have been any new developments as to who's going to be colonizing on your campus. Keep us informed!!!
|
The decision won't be made for a couple more months, but I'll let you know when it is.
|
I am really interested in seeing who they bring on campus. I remember talking to some friends I have in Zeta there and rush quotas were some ridiculously high number (like twice the size of ours, which was 46, which I think is already pretty big). Best of luck to whoever the new group will be. I'm a Columbia native, and I must say that the houses in the new Greek Village are AMAZING! Oh yeah, and Go Gamecocks!
|
Being a (North) Carolina girl myself I am also super interested! The South Carolina Alpha chapter of Pi Beta Phi was there at one time, too. In fact, our current grand president is an alum of the SC Alpha chapter which has a VERY strong alumnae presence nationally.
Edited to add: And our South Carolina Beta chapter was at Clemson. I *think* they shut down more recently, though. Do you know what sororities are presenting for colonization? |
please clemson and carolina give us updates soon!! I didnt know clemson was expanding as well! I can hardly wait to see who will be added....of course all my sisters and i want to hear Phi Mu! we go to Lander University... like a hour 15 from either school! so we would love to see another chapter added so close to us!

There was a motion passed earlier tonight to allow Alpha Xi Delta and Gamma Phi Beta to make presentations to NPC regarding expansions. There will be only one coming on campus. Any more questions, PM me.

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is AWESOME news for us. |
CAROLINADG....
....can you pass along a timetable for the presentations and when the university expects to make a decision once the presentations are concluded?
I am soooooooooooooooo excited!!! Go Gamma Phi!! http://216.40.249.192/mysmilies/otn/...y/luxhello.gif http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies.../guus/ogen.gif http://www.jamezbrown.com/mysmilies/...ai/smileyb.gif |
YEAH!!!!!!!!! Great news that Alpha Xi Delta is getting
to present. I second GPhiBLtColonel's requst for time table for presentations. |
Expansion committee won't be meeting again until mid-March, so we're not sure of exact dates yet, but the approximate time table for presentations is late April, with a vote sometime in the following week. We want to give the sororities a chance to get things together and make plans. Keep in mind that whichever sorority is invited to colonize will not do so until Spring of 2004. I'm sorry that y'all are going to have to wait so long to find out which one it is, though. But at least we have it narrowed down to two!:)

Woooooo!
Although I'm prejudiced, GPhiB is a terrific group too, so either way you'll be getting a great sorority! |
