Diana Ross Just Wanted a Video

Troubled singing legend Diana Ross told police offers she was trying to rent a video and got lost, after she was stopped for allegedly drunk-driving.

Officer Scott Sullivan of the Tucson police in Arizona stopped Ross on Monday after reports a vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Ross, 58, was stopped at a video store, where she had pulled into a disabled parking space.

The report says she twice denied she had been drinking, and said she had been lost and was "just trying to get here to rent a video."

The report also says Ross consented to a breath test, but fell down and laughed while trying to stand on one leg and count to 10.

In another test, the report says she skipped a couple of letters and doubled up on others when asked to write the alphabet.

Police say breath tests showed she had a blood-alcohol level of at least .20 percent, more than twice Arizona's legal driving limit of .08 percent.

J. Lo is Most Admired Woman

Jennifer Lopez has beaten Hillary Clinton and a string of politicians and sports stars to claim poll firm Gallup's annual Most Admired Woman in the World honor. (Afrochic's sidenote: How in the hell do you compare Jennifer Lopez to Hillary Clinton in admiration? That's like comparing Ashanti to Maxine Waters.)

Ten percent of those polled thought the "Jenny From The Block" diva should receive the honor.

President George W. Bush was named the Most Admired Man. (Afrochic's sidenote: NO COMMENT. Admiring a man that stole an election.....right  )

Suge: "I'm Innocent"

Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has insisted he is an innocent man - after spending Christmas in jail for alleged parole violations.

The Death Row Records founder was remanded in custody last week after police alleged he was associating with LA gang members - in direct violation of his parole requirements.

However, Knight protests, "I ain't no gangster. I'm too damn old. I'm a grown man trying to run a business. The guys who work for me ain't out wearing rags and gang banging in the streets. We got families. We got bills. Why don't they just leave us alone?

"I told parole that if I had to stop dealing with people from the 'hood, I might as well shut down my business. I can't just turn my back on the people I came up with. Rap comes from the same place that I did - the ghetto. I've had the same employees since I got out of prison and the parole office never said nothing. Why, all of a sudden, on Christmas Eve, do they decide to violate me and haul me away?"

"My parole officer asked me to stop by before the holidays, but as I opened the door to his office, this gang investigator was standing there who tells me they plan to put me away for a real long time if I don't start talking. I told him, 'You better handcuff me right now. Because I don't know a thing about it.'"

Knight is expected to remain incarcerated until an upcoming hearing on the matter.

Dead Woman's Family Drops Springer Suit
Jan 3, 11:03 PM EST

The family of a woman who was killed by her ex-husband after appearing with him on "The Jerry Springer Show" has dropped a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the program, attorneys said.

The lawsuit was filed by Jeffrey Campbell on behalf of his mother's estate last summer. It alleged that producers of the show had escalated the stormy relationship between 52-year-old Nancy Campbell and her ex-husband, Ralf Panitz.

Panitz, 43, was convicted of second-degree murder and received a life sentence in May 2002 for the July 24, 2000, beating death of his ex-wife. The show had been taped in May 2000. She was killed in her Sarasota home a few hours after the airing of the episode involving love triangles.

The family settled the case for nothing last month, partly because of a ruling in a similar case, Paul Vlachos, an attorney for the family, said Thursday.

In October, a Michigan appeals court threw out a jury's $29.3 million verdict against the "Jenny Jones" show, saying the program had no legal duty to protect a guest who had appeared on the show.

In a settlement agreement, attorneys for the show agreed not to countersue for malicious prosecution

Kisha 01-06-2003 12:13 PM

Funny someone would post Anita Baker's picture!

I went to see her a couple of weeks ago and the crowd was going wild when her named was called. However, when she came out,   the applause stopped and everyone was looking around wondering, who is that lady on stage.

It wasn't until she started speaking that the audience realized who she was. When I saw her, she had a phony pony down to her rear. She just didn't look like most remembered.

Nonetheless, the heffa sang her butt off!:)
