Before I actually read the thread, I thought you meant Tech sororities like... um, I don't know, an engineering sorority. There is one of those, isn't there? ANYWAY...
I'm not much help, considering I know nothing about Texas Tech. But let me try. Here's the Panhellenic page, which has links to all the sorority homepages. And it also shows the crests of every org., which is really neat to look at. Panhellenic at Texas Tech Wow! You're lucky, there are ELEVEN groups to choose from, and they are all strong nationally. You also might want to check out each org's national homepage (link from their chapter site or type in www.insertfullnameofsororityhere.org) And the Rush threads on this board are a WONDERFUL source of information, with plenty of lovely tips and lots of encouragement. That's as much as I can do... I'm trying to recall if there's anyone from Texas Tech on these boards that would be more useful. AHHH sorry I keep editing... I'm also going to leave the link to the student orgs, because the chapter webpages aren't all listed on the link above. Student Orgs at TT |
OK woah...
Here's some more stuff... I cannot EVEN believe how complicated rush is at TT!
You need to call 806.742.2403 in early April and get your name and address placed on the database for mailing Recruitment booklets, or click on the following link: Sign Up Online to Receive Recruitment Information. We will only mail you a booklet if you call and request one. Booklets will be sent out early June. Registration deadline is August 1. It is recommended, but not required, that each participant contact the nearest Alumnae Panhellenic. All information that they may require is completely separate from what Texas Tech Panhellenic requires. Whether you register with your City Alumnae Panhellenic or not, you must complete the following items and mail all the registration packet materials to Texas Tech Panhellenic. Fee to participate is $85. This fee is nonrefundable and covers the cost of transportation to Recruitment parties and cost of the meals provided by Panhellenic. Thirteen copies of the Recruitment Registration form (from booklet). Thirteen pictures of yourself. These may be snapshots or professional photographs. These are separate than any photographs requested by the City Alumnae Panhellenic. Twelve copies of your official completed high school and college transcript (if applicable). These must include your final GPA, rank in class, and official ACT or SAT scores. One copy of your official high school and college transcript (if applicable). An official transcript means it is signed by a school official or possess an official seal. Thirteen copies of your resume. Include your organizations, honors, offices held, awards, activities, etc. while in high school or college. Do not include weight, list of friends, etc. on this sheet. (Oh goodness, that's funny) One copy of the Statement of Understanding and Housing Form (from booklet). And hey, if the whole recruitment thing doesn't work out, you could always be a Miller Girl ;) Miller Girls |
WoW!!!
Thank you sooo much for your help! I had no idea that rush was so complicated! Now I'm nervous and it's not until fall! Oh, I have a question, I'm originally from San Antonio, but I go to school in Austin so which city Alumnae should I register with?
|
In answer to CarolinaCutie's mention of engineering sororities, I know of two that are national: Phi Sigma Rho and Alpha Sigma Kappa.
OK, back to the topic at hand ... good luck! I would register with whichever alumnae group you either know more people in - or if you don't know any, whichever one you'll have the time to meet women in. |
I agree with Fuzzie, register with whichever ones you can meet the most women in. I don't know this from personal experience, but I've heard recruitment in all of Texas is competitive. Since you're in Austin, it might be easier for you to register with them. I'm guessing they'll forward info to Tech.
Ask around in San Antonio and Austin, you probably already know women who are members of some of the groups at Tech. Good Luck! |
I happen to know a TON about recruitment at Texas Tech. I don't have time to post right now because I am at work, but I will get back to your query tonight!

CarolinaCutie, your post is very helpful. I got a big kick out of the Miller Girls, though!:D
My husband is the Miller distributor here and I had NO idea about the origination of Miller Girls...the things you learn here on GC! Happy New Year! Andrea |
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. I can answer just about any question you have on the Texas Tech Greek System. As you can see, I am an Alpha Phi (alum), but I still work with the Texas Tech chapter.
First, don't let the seemingly complicated sign-up process dissuade you from going through recruitment. It's really not so different from the process most women have to go through to participate in rush at any school with a large Greek system. Just contact the Panhellenic office and they will mail you everything you need to get started. This year Panhellenic will be distributing a CD-ROM with information about all the sororities, recruitment rules and more! So look for that. (TTU defines full-time as 12 hours a semester, excluding correspondence courses and courses at other schools). * You are NOT a pledge/new member of any NPC sorority * You are NOT an initiated member of any NPC sorority * You pay the fee to participate ($85.00) and complete all necessary forms by the deadline What Sororities are at Texas Tech University? On average, the new member semester is the most expensive, due to several one-time fees. After initiation, the dues are reduced for the remaining semesters. The cost of sorority dues excludes items like T-shirts, hats, jewelry, and other miscellaneous items. The average cost for a new member semester is between $800 and $1,100. The average cost for each semester after that is $350 and $600. |
I recommend getting in touch with the Panhellenic Office as soon as possible. Things tend to get a bit hectic toward the end of the year, so the sooner you start the better.
As to rush tips, I have compiled a list of frequently asked questions on the Tech Alpha Phi website. You might check those out: |
Alumnae Panhellenics:
Austin Alumnae Panhellenic San Antonio: The contact for San Antonio Panhellenic is listed here NPCwomen.org There are a number of Alpha Phi women on Greek Chat who are from the St. Mary's University chapter of Alpha Phi in San Antonio. If you need a contact, post a message on the Alpha Phi boards or send me a private message. |
Thank you very much TechAphi for all your help and information! I don't have any questions...yet, but I'll be sure to ask you for help and advice when the time comes. It's funny that you mentioned St. Mary's, I almost went there because everyone in my family has graduated from there and my grandpa is actually the Chairman of the Language department! But I had to be the rebel and go to school somewhere else. Anyway thanks again, you are a big help!:D
