Good Gifts For Kids

My little sisters birthday is coming up pretty soon, and being the oldest im expected to buy her all the latest cd's. Only problem is our mother thinks she's too young to listen to bands like Cake and WILCO. But I went to Best Buy and asked the guys there if they couldn't recomend anything for my little sister. They directed me to a CD titled "For The Kids". Its got songs by Sarah McLaughlin, BarenakedLadies, Cake, and WILCO, except they are made for Kids. Do you guys think she will like it??

How old is she?

I think I saw an ad for that on Nickelodeon or something. If it's the same thing... basically it's a group of kids, i am guessing anywhere between 8-13 (they all sounded like pretty immature voices on the ad) singing the popular Top 40. Personally, I would be more afraid to listen to an 8 year old sing "Come on Over" by Christina Aguilara than to actually hear the original.
If your sister is any older than 8, I wouldn't get it... gift certificates work wonders.

To my mind, this totally depends on the age of your sister. Maybe some suggestions:

8-12:
-I'd stick to the bubble-gummy crap here, unfortunately - go for stuff manufactured for the age group, even if it means Aaron Carter or the *nsync boys

12-15:
-Here you can start to open it up a little bit - on the younger end of the spectrum, depending on tastes, you can start to move into a little better music, but by 14 you can move her onto bands like Cake, Dave Matthews, Get Up Kids, maybe some Beck, Dashboard Confessional, stuff that begins to move into more mature subject matter while still targeting younger audiences (and not completely sucking ass).

15-up:
-I think you're fair game here to go for just about anything - bands like Saves the Day, guys like Jack Johnson, or if her musical tastes are slightly better developed, try some Badly Drawn Boy or Brendan Benson.

Hey hope that helps duder

Sorry about the delayed response. My family decided to go out of town for New Years and well a computer was hard to come by. My little sis is 11 years old, and her birthday is Jan 6...so i don't have much time. I just wanted to thank everyone that ansered my questions. I really hope she will like it...especially since she's grown out of thos Sing Along Songs (thank goodness). Ill let everyone know if she likes it.
