Delta Omicron Question
I have surfed the net and can not find any info! I know delta Omicron (It's not Delta Omega-right?) is a music sorority. Is it just for music majors, or is it like SAI where you just have to have an interest in music or take one music class to join and then it's just like any other sorority. How many Chapters does DO have, where are they, what is the link to the national website (I couldn't find that anywhere). Also-I didn't see any DO members post on the "Mascot" thread, so DO girls, give us some info! Colors, mascot, motto etc. Thanks!

The Delta Omicron national web site is not easy to find. Here ya go - http://deltaomicron.people.virginia.edu/
I had a friend who was a DO and it was only for music majors/minors or related fields like musical theatre. Their colors are rose and gray and their flower is the Lily of the Valley. Their badge is a lyre. It looks similar to Alpha Chi's but not as many pearls. |
wow
100 chapters( 46 active chapters) with a bunch pof alumni groups-much bigger than I thought. Cool.

One of my DZ sisters (actually, my little!) is a Delta Omicron. It's actually pretty cool....DZ's colors are pink and green and DO's colors are pink and gray. DZ's mascot=turtle; DO's mascot=frog. The Delta Omicrons at MTSU are an amazing group...Lindsey keeps threating to make a DZ
O shirt! I told her that I would disown her!!!!! |
There is a Greek Chatter, Ginger who is a Delta Omicron (it's in her signature). You may wish to PM or email her to visit this thread. :)

Once again, Do I reiterate, it is there the best of the Best on site!
Ask and you will recieve information about the Greek Community in any shape or form! This is an un- celisted annountcment for the members of GC! We May Not be The Same, But We are and can be equal! Cogito Ergo Sum---- I Think Therefore, I am!!!l |
WOW! I am so flattered that somebody knew who I was :)
Yes! I am a Delta Omicron and I will be very happy to give you the proper information!! You do not have to be a music major or minor to be a DO... in fact, I was not a major or minor, nor were many girls in my chapter. It is required that you take at least one music class and I think that you need a GPA in any music classes you take to be a 2.5 or higher. Other than that, all that is required is a love of music. I thought that we had a lot more active chapters than 46... I don't know the number off hand, but I can find out. I have never heard that DO's mascot is a Frog!!! That may be something new or a local thing, but it doesn't really make sense in the grander scheme of things...interesting!! If you have any questions please PM me!! A lot of people think that we are a sorority only for music majors or minors, and we lose a lot of great girls that way. I'd love to help dispell some of those myths! |
I am actually kind of interested
I love music and I would love to be in a sorority that promoted that. Do you have any parameters like NPC-that other sorority members can't be in yours? I know you can't be an SAI and DO right? Also, Do you know where all the chapters are located-you national website is kind of crummy-no offense:) I may be moving from Cali to Georgia. I can't find anything on the web.
Is it a social or professional sorority and are men allowed. I heard men were allowed. I am not really interested in being in a co-ed group. THANKS!!!! |
A lot of the questions you asked vary from chapter to chapter. I've just found out myself that some chapters do require you to be a major or minor, but on a national level, it is not a requirement.
As to whether you can be in an NPC and DO... that varies from chapter to chapter too. My chapter had a by-law against it, but it is not a national rule. Nationals DOES state that you can not be a member of DO and SAI. A lot of it comes down to whether the chapter in question views itself as a professional group or a social sorority. My chapter (when I pledged) was a very social group, did a lot of things with the other greeks, and once upon a time, was on panhell at our school. However, by the time I left school, the membership had turned, and operated as a professional group and never did anything fun (sorry...little bitter there) Yes, our national website is crap :) I get so jealous when I look at all the beautiful websites some other national (and local!) sororities have :D If I knew anything about building a webpage I'd volunteer to re-do it in a second! Are we co-ed? That is a BIG issue of tension :) Due to our status as a professional organization, we were forced to admit men beginning sometime in the 70s. However, in my experience at least, male members are VERY uncommon. There was a guy in my chapter when I pledged, and he didn't stay active very long, because everyone (not the DOs... I mean other people on campus) made fun of him for being a guy in a sorority. So I wouldn't worry about that much... most guys, if they want to be in a music GLO will join Phi Mu Alpha. At our national convention (which was held in GA... I'll get to that in a second) I heard a statistic quoted that less than 2% of membership internationally is male, and that comes almost entirely from a couple of chapters that are almost all male. Yes! There are chapters in GA... I'm not sure where exactly... our last Triennial Convention was held at the University of Georgia, and was hosted by a chapter in that area somewhere... I'll have to look at my information from convention and see if I can find what school it was at. You have no idea how thrilled I am that someone is asking about DO!! I think I'm the only one on the board, so it's nice to be feelin' some love :) |
