Going to Dominican Republic

My boyfriend and I are going in February. Anybody been there? Where should we go? Not go? Any advice.

my brother went there for a missions trip (medical/spiritual) and had a blast. make sure you get your immunizations/vaccines before you go. dangi (sp?) fever is rampid there. not necessarily at that time, but still. try and get over to haiti if you can.

this is what my brother had to say: "the north side of the island (sosua and others) have better diving i think. the south side of the island is where santa domingo is has better (more culturally oriented) night-life down there. better (more culturally oriented) night-life down there. street parties and stuff.
basically, if they want to experience reefs and drinking and partying with other americans, tell them to go to sosua by the sea on the north side of the island.
if they want to spend some time partying with the locals, stay on the south side of the island."

hope it helps.

thank you so much, shelley j. we'll be staying at a resort in santa domingo for five days. i'm too excited. but do we really need to get shots if we're staying at a resort??? i don't want to get sick and have to be hospitalized.... but either way, thanks for taking the time to write. :D

he just told me that it's better to be safe than sorry. the only one you really should get is a hepatitis A shot he says. if you go to any doctor who does international immunization, they'll have a chart in their office telling what you should get done. evidently it is sort of expensive, but there isn't much you can do about that. try shopping around a bit if you can and you might be able to save yourself a few bucks. have fun!
